DB2 message DSNT815 - appears to be a new DB2 message
I am hoping for some HELP!

I am currently having some problems with the real time statistics. I
thought that a stop and a start may help, but whenever I attempt a stop on
database DSNRTSDB, I
get message DSNT815I. It doesn't look like this message has a great deal
of documentation.

Here is the complete message text:

DSNT815I -DBP1 DSNTDSTP - THE REAL-TIME STATISTICS 306
COLLECTION
PROCESS IS NOT STOPPED

Also, if is issue a STOP on database DSNRTSDB, nothing (except for
the issuing of this message) happens (it is left in RW status).

Has anyone seen this message? Is the infamous "reboot" option my
only remaining way to stop and start RTS?

Larry

It does seem a little odd. However... the realtime statistics collection
process never STOPS as I understand it, but the externalization of
statistics will only happen when the database/tablespace is STARTed. Have
you tried explicitly issuing the STOP against the tablespace...?

Don't know what your maintenance level is but there are several APARs
related to RTS not stopping.

Re: DB2 message DSNT815 - appears to be a new DB2 message
(in response to Jeremiah Eden)
From a PMR, but still not much help:

DSNT815I csect-name THE REAL-TIME STATISTICS COLLECTION
PROCESS IS NOT STOPPED
.
Explanation:
An error prevents DB2 from externalizing the in-memory
statistics. The error is generally a persistent error and
must be remedied before the process can be enabled. Look
for prior messages to identify the nature of the problem.
Severity:
0 (informational)
System Action:
The statistics database is implicitly stopped and no
further attempt will be made to externalize the in-memory
statistics.
User Response:
Notify the system programmer.
Problem etermination:
Inspect the console for prior messages and refer
to those messages for problem determination.
-------------
I found an indication that the message will be included
in the next messages and codes book, please review
http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/db2/os390/v7books.html
for most current books
-------------
The messages and codes book on this site does not currently
have the description for this message.

Re: DB2 message DSNT815 - appears to be a new DB2 message
(in response to Sam Baugh)
I have found out that DB2 will issue this message whenever you attempt to
stop database "DSNRTSDB" and the statistics cannot be externalized (for any
reason whatsoever). We experienced this problem and then degraded to a
more serious problem. The more serious problem was that all of our image
copy jobs abended with an S0F8 abend. IBM let me know that the abend was
due to RTS. However, since I could not turn off RTS through normal
channels (of stopping database "DSNRTSDB", remember the DSNT815 message), I
could not overcome the abend.

I ended up turning off RTS by using my favorite change product to rename
database "DSNRTSDB" to database "DBRRTSDB". Since this dropped the
official RTS database, it turned off the collection process of RTS and my
image copies started running without problems. I did this change last
night. Today, I changed the database name back from "DBRRTSDB" to
"DSNRTSDB" and RTS is now fully functional (???).

IBM is currently working on the S0F8 (see PQ81295).
