SMF TYPE101

Roland Schiradin

SMF TYPE101
We had to stop SMF recording for DB2 TYPE101 because of the huge numbers
of records comming from DB2 Connect (Plan DISTSERV).

So we changed DSN6SYSP SMFACCT=NO and SMFSTAT=NO from YES.

How did you handle this huge numbers of SMF records under V7?
I know V8 will help but it in plan for 2005

Re: SMF TYPE101
(in response to Roland Schiradin)
Large number of SMF type records are created in a distributed environment
if DSNZPARM CMTSTAT is set to INACTIVE.
Setting it ACTIVE will resolve this problem but you have to evaluate other
related parameters. DB2 version 8 will provide a
relief.

Roland,

The SMFSTAT is for statistics, and is a 100 record. These are never a
problem.

Joel

Re: SMF TYPE101

It's probably accounting trace that fills the SMF. (ACCTG class(1,2,3,7,8) ), not the SMF traces.
In many places I've seen it generated twice (one to SMF the other to a monitor) ... :-(

Re: SMF TYPE101

Tnx to all replies.

CMSTAT=ACTIVE is ok but not option in case of analyze.
SMFSTAT=NO yep that's TYPE100 and we change it back to YES.
It's just TYPE(SMF) which cause trouble filling a lot of SMF datasets.

DSNW127I -DB2S CURRENT TRACE ACTIVITY IS -

We need the accounting records only for DISTSERV. I'm going to code an IEFU84
exit to suppress the TYPE101 for CICS, Batch and TSO.

Is there a better way?

Roland,

In the start trace command you can specify a plan. Did you try that?

For example:
STA TRACE(ACCTG) DEST(SMF) PLAN(DISTSERV)
or
STA TRACE(ACCTG) CLASS(1,2,3,5,7,8) DEST(SMF) PLAN(DISTSERV)
