RSU levels - DB2OS390V7
Our last ESO tapes indicated highest service level of 0410 for both tapes .
TAPE1 had DB2 base, IRLM,JDBC,ODBC,etc and showed PTFs from RSU0410. TAPE2
had DB2 base,Utilities, REXX but showed PTFs only as high as RSU0409.
My question is when I order next round of maintenance, do I request maint
starting with RSU0409 or RSU0410?

John,

you should order from 0409 or even further back.
Alternatively, consider ordering a CBPDO tape.

SMP receive processing will skip any PTFs that are
present in the global zone. And in case you already
accepted your current maintenance level and cleaned
up your global, it doesn't hurt.

SMP apply processing will inform you if you try to
apply a PTF that is already applied to the target zone.
After receiving your PTFs, you can find out which
ones need to be applied by running an SMP
LIST SYSMODS NOAPPLY(targetzone).
on your global zone.

Be prepared - with your main level being nearly two
years ago - to find that you will need to apply
between 2,000 and 3,000 PTFs to get to a current level.
I wish you patience while reading cover letters.

Success!

Re: RSU levels - DB2OS390V7
(in response to Abe Kornelis)
John,

Do you know the shopzseries website? Take a look at:
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/ShopzSeries/ShopzSeries.jsp
From this site you can order maintenance tailored to your environment and
download it directly to your workstation and then zOS, or receive it
directly
in the DB2 SMP global zone if you have internet access from zOS. The
process consists of generating a report of SMP installed software using
GIMXTRX smp utility, and then uploading the report to shopzseries website
and making service order using this report. All the instructions to do it
are in the website and
the jcl to extract smp information looks like this:

//STEP1 EXEC PGM=IEBGENER
//SYSUT1 DD *
SUFFNC=BMPTZN
SUFGBL=SMPED.DB2710.GLOBAL.CSI <- DB2 GLOBAL ZONE
DATASET NAME
SUFTGT=DB2T300 <- DB2 TARGET ZONE
/*
//SYSUT2 DD DSN=DB2SW.DSNP.WRK.SUF.IN,
// DISP=(NEW,CATLG),
// UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(TRK,(1,0,0)),
// DCB=(RECFM=FB,LRECL=80)
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSIN DD DUMMY
//*
//STEP2 EXEC PGM=GIMXTRX,PARM='DB2SW.DSNP.WRK.SUF.IN'
//SYSTSPRT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSUDUMP DD SYSOUT=*
//* STEP3:
//* DELETE THE INPUT DATA SET CREATED IN STEP1
//*
//STEP3 EXEC PGM=IEFBR14
//DD1 DD DSN=*.STEP1.SYSUT2,DISP=(OLD,DELETE)

After completion, this jcl will create a dataset named
DB2SW.DSNP.WRK.SUF.OUT with smp information. You then download it binary
to your workstation
and use it when making your order. If the maintenance package size is
below 5GB, you can download it directly from website, otherwise you can
request a tape to be sent to you.

HTH,
Walter Trovijo.

Re: RSU levels - DB2OS390V7
(in response to Walter Trovijo Jr)
I suggest you order a current CBPDO and refresh your code to that
level.
The current available RSU level is RSU0511. You will need several
ptfs in RSU and PUT
levels higher than RSU0409 if you want to migrate to V8. After getting
to the
current level, I would suggest, as Walter Trovijo did in his post, that
you
start using ShopZseries to order each RSU level as it becomes
available.

You can register at
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/servicetst/
to get notified by email when each RSU level is available.

If you are at the right level of SMP/E (3.3 I think) and z/OS then you
can
also do a RECEIVE FROM NETWORK in SMP/E and receive the ptfs in your
order directly into your Global CSI within hours of submitting the
order.
One you have done this once, you will never willingly go back to tape.

Good luck
