DSN1CHKR on DB2 V6

DSN1CHKR on DB2 V6
Would it hurt to run on SYSOBJ or any other tablespace that IMS says it
won't run on? Does it update anything?

Allen:

If you try running DSN1CHKR against the tablespaces IBM says it should not run against, it simply won't run -- it'll give you the following error message:

DSN1810I INPUT DATA SET INVALID, NOT A CHECKABLE SYSTEM TABLESPACE
DSN1816I DSN1CHKR TERMINATED WITH ERRORS, 00000001 PAGES PROCESSED

However, you can still run DSN1COPY with the "CHECK" option against these tablespaces (admittedly not quite as thorough a check as DSN1CHKR, but better than nothing), and you can also run CHECK DATA and CHECK INDEX against these tablespaces as well. These 3 things will give you a fairly good health check against the tablespaces that DSN1CHKR cannot run against, if that's what you're after.

Here's an example of DSN1COPY with the CHECK option:

//***********************************************************
//* RUN DSN1COPY AND CHECK EACH PAGE FOR VALIDITY
//***********************************************************
//STEP292 EXEC PGM=DSN1COPY,PARM='CHECK'
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSUT1 DD DSN=DB2P.DSNDBC.DSNDB06.SYSOBJ.I0001.A001,DISP=SHR
//SYSUT2 DD DUMMY

DSN1CHKR is simply a read-only (offline) verification of the integrity of certain Catalog & Directory tablespaces - it doesn't "update" anything, it simply reports any problems it finds (and leaves you to decide how to fix them).

Hope this helps...
