Monthname function in DB2/ZOS in ver 7

Hi,

It's been a while I have send any email to the list server. But yesterday a
developer was trying to use monthname function and not working
And failing with sqlcode -440. I was wondering if anybody had use the
function and if there was any trick to using it,

select MONTHNAME(week_date) from x.yyyy;

http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/DSNSQH11/G.5?SHEL
F=DSNSHHA2&DT=20010718164132
<http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/DSNSQH11/G.5?SHE
LF=DSNSHHA2&DT=20010718164132>

I did see the function referenced in IBM Manual.

Thanks,

Amit

Monthname function in DB2/ZOS in ver 7Amit,

I have not used the function.
But the sqlcode -440 received by your developer was probably because
the installation job DSNTEJ2U mentioned on the first page
of appendix G of the DB2 SQL Reference Manual
has not been performed.

Hi Amit, See the link below. Check with your sysprog regarding the job
DSNTEJ2U?
Run the following query to check whether the user defined function
MONTHNAME defined.
SELECT *
FROM SYSIBM.SYSROUTINES
WHERE NAME = 'MONTHNAME'
WITH UR;

Re: Monthname function in DB2/ZOS in ver 7
(in response to Basivi Inaganti)
and if your developer is going to use this function in production code,
then you do need to be aware of some of the implications of it being a
"sample" function.

Samples are provided by IBM, from time to time, to show you how to do
something. In general, they are NOT supported, they are NOT guaranteed
to be in future versions of DB2 and they MIGHT change without warning.

I would be very reticent about using sample functions in application
code without cloning them and making them my own built in functions

Thanks Basivi, Phil, Agus.

This is very useful, we don't have the function installed and decided to use
a workaround rather than installing the function.
