JDBC Updates taking too long

JDBC Updates taking too long
We are using DB2 UDB 5.2, Java 1.1 and JDBC under AIX to do updates to a
database. The updates are taking too long. When we do an iostat, we are
seeing that it is reading 5-8MB for each update and only writing about 4K.
The database has about 10000 records in it currently. If we write all of
the update statements to a file and do a db2 -t < file.sql. The updates
(500) of them take less than 3 seconds, but using JDBC with
prepare/execute, the entire process is taking over 30 minutes. Any ideas?

Thanks.
