DB2 V8 Windows Runtime Client Lite

Tim R Ohling

DB2 V8 Windows Runtime Client Lite
We're supporting a purchased application that uses DB2 V8.2 Express on
Windows as the server, and is configured with DB2 V8 Runtime Client Lite
on Citrix servers for the application runtime.

The version originally installed is V8 FP7.

We're trying to update the Citrix clients to the latest fixpack (FP12
for Runtime Client Lite).

It won't install, saying that there is already some other DB2 product
installed at a different fixpack. The only thing we know of is the
older Runtime Client Lite. Nothing shows up in add/remove programs - so
we can't uninstall the older version.

We also tried installing the full V8 FP14 Runtime Client - it refuses to
install because of another unidentified product (presumably the RTCL) at
an earlier version.

Has anyone else had experience with Runtime Client Lite and applying
upgrades or replacing it with the full Runtime Client? We're kind of
stuck because we can't figure out how to uninstall the old version to
allow us to install either replacement.

Added comment: it seems really strange that an attempt to install a
newer version of RTCL or full Runtime Client wouldn't just overlay the
Lite version anyway! Seems reasonable to me...

Thanks,
Tim Ohling

It's probably still in your system registry.

Do 'regedit' and check in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ==> SOFTWARE ==> IBM ==> DB2 ==> DB2 Runtime Client

If you can remove ALL that needs to be removed in there, you should be
OK... but caution,,,, you're messing with the registry so you might want to
get a sysadm to confirm what needs to be removed.

Good luck !

Re: DB2 V8 Windows Runtime Client Lite

Tim,

I recently found a Technote on uninstalling UDB for Windows due to a
problem we were having with the uninstall of V8.1 Fixpak 11:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21104569

It contains detailed instructions on how to manually remove the product.
I know it doesn't answer your original question but should get you
around the problem.

HTH,

Chad Walmer

Re: DB2 V8 Windows Runtime Client Lite

Try "db2licm -l" - this should tell you what DB2 thinks is licensed.

Now try
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ==> SOFTWARE ==> IBM ==> DB2

There should be "product name" ==> CurrentVersion ==> Modification entries that tells you
the PTF level for installed products.

Some licensed "things" are not separate products (eg HADR), and some products don't
have specific licenses (eg Infomation Center), but between the two you should see the
"unknown" product"

Re: DB2 V8 Windows Runtime Client Lite
(in response to James Campbell)
As follow-up
Runtime Client Lite does NOT include db2licm. It is absolute bare
bones.

Based on the links we've been given a few times (I do have a problem
open with IBM as well), we're down to using regedit and manually
clearing the DB2 entries:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21104569
Option 1 - it's not found in add/remove programs
Option 2 - the original install executable (it's a standalone
self-extracting package) doesn't provide a remove option
Option 3 - it's not a Microsoft Installer package (msi) that can used
the force_uninstall
Option 4 - registry edit looking for the RTLITE key...

No DB2 services are running on the box.

I am working with the Windows Admin group on this, and they've never
seen any legitimate installed product hide itself this well.

Wish us luck...

Thx,
Tim
