DB2 Across Lpars

DB2 Across Lpars
Is it possible to have a DB2 CICS Application running on LPAR-A talking
to the DB2 sub-system on LPAR-B?
If it is possible how is it done?

Running z/OS 1.4 soon to be 1.7 with DB2 v8.

TIA,

Rogers

Re: DB2 Across Lpars
(in response to Rogers Laine)
Assuming you're a datasharing environment, you can create aliases for
the tables you want to access in another DB2 and include the location
name in the alias definition. Then you can select the data from program
as if the table was in the same DB2.

For example Table1 is in DB2A on LPARA owned by dba1. You create an
alias

CREATE ALIAS dba2.my_table1
FOR lparb_name.dba1.table1;

The application in LPARB, just references the alias. That's how we do
it for both IMS/DC and CICS applications. Running in different Lpars and
different DB2 subsystems.

Carol,

I assume you meant distributed environment using DRDA (or private
protocol), rather than datasharing.

Cathy Taddei

Re: DB2 Across Lpars
(in response to Roy Cornford)
It's been a long time for me, but I think this is easily done with DDF.
You simply have to insert correct entries in the applicable tables in
the communication database (SYSDDF) in each subsystem, then you can
reference tables in the other subsystem by their 3-part names. The last
time I did this everything was SNA and I updated SYSIBM.LOCATIONS and
SYSIBM.LUNAMES, but nowadays you would probably use IPNAMES instead of
LUNAMES. YMMV, HTH.

I did it for a batch application so it'd be possible for a CICS
application. In that case I populates the tables in Cathy's reply.
