z/OS download fixes

z/OS download fixes
I agree that this website is easy to use.

However, I typically find it takes 3 iterations to get an installable set of PTF's.

It appears to me that the lookback function for prereq and coreq PTF's doesn't seem to look back far enough in time. As a result, I get missing prereq's on my first n apply checks.

Thanks, Max, and thanks to everyone else who sent links. I followed them all, and though I found various ways of obtaining PTF's, none were the page I was looking for. But I did submit a feedback to IBM, and Bill Stern came through for me with this link:

http://www-304.ibm.com/jct01004c/systems/support/z/zos/downloading.html

In my opinion, it's the best way to download PTF's -- you can paste in any number of PTF's, submit the order, and in a few minutes you get an email with a userid, password, directory, and dataset names that you retrieve from IBM's ftp site. I have automated the process, and thus was very annoyed when they changed the web address AGAIN (because they love to torment me, I'm sure). But I'm so glad it is still there -- I tried using SRD yesterday, and it is a PITA.

Merry Christmas!

Hi Cathy

Apart the links posted by J. Campbell, you can go directly to PTF download page from IBM technical help web page

http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/srchBroker/views/srchBroker.jsp?rs=112

You search the desired apar/PTF (or some words), at the bottom of the relative page there's the PTF(s) (usually more than 1) you need for your z/OS,DB2,VTAM etc version and clicking on it will bring you directly to PTF order page, so you don't need to save the link to that page that can change over time.

And if you have SMP/E V3.4, you can set some of this stuff up to move
certain fixes down to you automatically and have them staged and ready
to RECEIVE when needed. There is a little more on this at
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/servicetst/getserv.html

Re: z/OS download fixes
(in response to William Favero)
I've had problems when I allowed it to give me superceding PTF's,
because then it didn't include the superceded PTF, and more often than
not there would be a problem applying the superceding PTF so I would
still need the superceded one. I stay pretty current on receiving
hipers and preventive maintenance, so I just click all 3 boxes "No".
Once in a while I'll get a missing pre, but most of the time this
process works for me. Plus the packages are smaller and quick to
download.

Cathy

Hi,

I always used and would like to suggest shopzseries to download DB2 RSU updates and ptfs. It generates a complete set of fixes based on your CSI information that you can download to pc and from there to mf or smp receive directly from website.
