Dropping tablespaces in work database on DB2 v7

Dropping tablespaces in work database on DB2 v7
Hello,

We have a 6 member data sharing group running DB2 v7. We've discovered
that some of the tablespaces in the work database for one of the members
was supposed to be defined as 32K but was inadvertantly defined as 4K.

Since the applications running on that member isn't currently being used,
we'd like to drop and recreate the spaces as 32K. Our concern is that
locks may be taken on the DB2 catalog which could impact applications
running on the other members of the data sharing group.

Has anyone done this? Does it require a lock on any of the catalog tables?

Thanks,
Donna Domovic

I'd look at doing it with Alter Tablespace. In a data share, the TBSP
will need to be stopped before the alter can be issued. In a non-data
share, you can simply alter, and wait for the stop/start to happen at
IPL time, DB2 down-time, etc. I've done this in the past. Set up a
three step job. Step1 issues the stop, step2 is the alter, step3 is the
start.

Not sure what locks you are concerned about, remember each member has it's
own work DB...

Re: Dropping tablespaces in work database on DB2 v7

Roy,

The locks that I'm concerned with are exclusive locks on any catalog tables
that could impact other work occurring in the data sharing group. Since it
sounds like the only locks that we have to worry about are on the work
database, which isn't currently being used, we'll be ok.

Thanks for the information.

Donna
