[DB2 V7 Z/OS v1.4] Sto Group / Volume
Hello List,

I have question on DB2 managed tablespaces/indexes.

If I have a Sto Group X that has volume V1. I modify the Tablespaces &
Indexspaces that use 'X' to use stogroup 'Y' and manipulate stogroup "Y' to
have volume 'V1', should I do Reorg (lets forget advisory thing) ? Is that
mandatory ?

I think it should not pose problem on SMS requests on further extents or
allocation ?

Please comment..

Regards,
Bala.

Hi Bala

No - you are OK

You only need to run REORG (or RECOVER/REBUILD perhaps) if you change a
stogroup definition such that you WANT to move page sets from one device
to another

And you will not get an advisory status either

Re: [DB2 V7 Z/OS v1.4] Sto Group / Volume

We have recently run into a similar situation where a DBA wanted to
migrate to a new STOGROUP using a new VCAT and new volumes.

We issued the ALTERS for the database objects and then did a RECOVER to
'migrate' the objects to the new STOGROUPS.

Well, you said "similar" but the original poster was keeping the SAME vcat name and the SAME volser(s) - which is why I said he didn't need to do anything else

He just changed the DB2 stogroup name

Re: [DB2 V7 Z/OS v1.4] Sto Group / Volume
(in response to Troy Coleman)
I agree with Phil. He is okay. He does not need to rename datasets ..
the name is the same .. the volume is the same .. only the stogroup
changes which has the same volume. All he needs to do is alter the
table and indexes to the new Stogroup.

Re: [DB2 V7 Z/OS v1.4] Sto Group / Volume
(in response to Wayne Stevens)
Thanks for all the replies. People around me suggested to go for a Reorg
but, I did not because I had a long list of tables. This was not on
Production. So, I could not afford to run Reorg manually.

I also assumed, there was no need to even run RUNSTATS (as nothing has
changed !). May be STOSPACE utility could be ran for the old and new SG.

Thanks once again,
Bala.
