Subject: Reducing your DB2 related IT costs in this economy, is critical for your survival

Today, we are faced with a tight economy, and a huge incentive to reduce both current costs and those projected for the future.
The corporations that survive and prosper in the future are those that address both current and future costs now.

Viewing our short 3-minute, management oriented, movie at www.responsivesystems.com/Movie1
will highlight our cost reduction possibilities and achievements. We have several clients that have
accomplished seven figure cost savings within the first few months of using our Buffer Pool Tool for DB2.

Where can large cost savings be realized?

a. Reducing CPU overhead by tuning your DB2 buffer pools and IO subsystem makes more processing capacity available for other tasks. This improves productivity,
and allows more real work to flow through your system. This helps avoid or delay a processor upgrade, and the associated huge software upgrade fees
that pile on top of the processor upgrade cost itself.

b. Finding and correcting poor application access, that causes large sequential scans of data. These processes burn your CPU, and are one of the primary causes
of processor upgrades. Buffer Pool Tool will highlight these problems faster than any other product.
Correcting some of these major performance problems may allow you to downgrade your processor, and have much lower software renewal/license costs in the future.

Please consider a trial of Buffer Pool Tool, and let us help you find the cost saving and reduction opportunities in your systems.

Quite frankly, if we weren't better than our large corporate competition, we wouldn't still be in the marketplace as the acknowledged Industry Standard product.

Some of our clients are: three of the top ten banks in the US, seven of the top 50. Three of the top ten banks in the world, four of the top 20.
Some of the largest manufacturers, retailers, insurers, and telecommunications companies.
Many dozen of small to large-range companies.

Thank you for your time.

Joel,

That was a nice management promo for your product... well done. We are
also having success with a similar message for BPA4DB2, ESAi’s buffer
pool productivity tool.

As you know, customers’ choices are based on value propositions. It is
evident that we both address the same need, performance and savings with
buffer pool management and fine tuning. Yet, our approaches and tools
are different alternatives. By the way, BPA4DB2 has supported group
buffer pools since inception, and it is certainly a great selling point
against lesser competitors.

ESAi’s suite of DB2 products take a holistic approach towards the many
critical issues and increased workloads that DBA’s must deal with on a
daily basis. We hope to compete against you on many trials because that
will mean we are both being successful. Clients benefit from having
multiple options available when choosing solutions to satisfy their needs.

(in response to Rob Barbour)
Hi Bob,

The huge differences between our products is that Buffer Pool Tool actually predicts the IO rate/second - which is the critical performance metric, and that we
can predict Group Buffer Pool performance as well. We also report true IO performance at the object level, and pages actually read by all types of prefetch.
SP, LP and DP have large impacts upon both pool and object performance. We report and predict at the partition level as well.
BPT shows memory usage and paging of both DB2, and the entire LPAR - so it's easy to see if memory is available to increase pool sizes, or memory is already overallocated.

Overall, the biggest issue is - we all need to keep DB2 running well so companies will stay in business, and on the mainframe.
There are great opportunities out there. We have clients with documented 7 figure cost savings.

You have some really great graphics!!!

Best regards,
Joel

In our current economic situation, for companies to stay in business,
they are cutting back to save current and near-future costs. It seems
consolidating to a single vendor solution for all "3rd party" mainframe
and open systems tools appears to be the solution at the moment as long
as the "basics" in the tools are covered to remain *operational*.

The call of the day is for vendors to *severely* re-structure their
pricing models to relieve the *current* financial pressure on their
customers so they can stay in business and keep people employed. I
would think any vendor who contacts current and prospective customers
with a financial deal they can't refuse would benefit in many ways. You
can always change the model later when the economic climate improves.
