DB2 UDB for Z/OS and CDB Version 9 Utilities

DB2 UDB for Z/OS and CDB Version 9 Utilities
I have been attempting to upgrade my CDB utilities from version 7.4 to
CDB Version 9 in order to support our DB2 Version 9 upgrade.
Unfortunately I have had a large number of issues which causes the
utility to fail and it is not always evident what the problems are. I am
a little concerned about the new design of the CDB V9 utility which
involves a master and server address spaces and was wondering if anyone
is successfully using CDB Version 9 Reorg (or any other utilities).

I have CDB coming onsite tomorrow to assist me in the install and
customization of the product and I hope they will identify something
that I am not setting or doing correctly.

Any feedback would be appreciated

Jeff

We have had abends in the CA load and recover utilities under DB2 9. IBM recommended PTF UK42138 to resolve the problems, but I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Cathy

Re: DB2 UDB for Z/OS and CDB Version 9 Utilities
(in response to Cathy Taddei)
Hello, We use the CDB RESTORE and I have resisted going to the version 9
instead relying on 7.4. We have a number of partition tables and some of
the tables are table partition. I wanted to use the version 9 for the
table partition but discovered that the v9 restore does not set the npi
indexes to RECP nor will it restore partition tables unless you have
partition copies i.e. a IBM full copy of all the partitions will not
restore using CDB on a partition table. CDB is working on changing this.
I did try the REORG V9 and have had mixed success. It took quite awhile
to work out a setup that would REORG a very large partition table. Space
allocation and npi re-writing were my main issues. I used a master and 3
servers but have yet to figure out what works best for performance.

Also we have CDBSTATS and although it works faster than IBM runstats I
am unclear if all the stats are gathered and written to the catalog
similar to the IBM utility. Column stats for example. I have tried
different syntax but have not yet obtained column stats with CDB.

Please let me know if the onsite assistance helps.

Re: DB2 UDB for Z/OS and CDB Version 9 Utilities
(in response to Steve Neff)
Just wanted to let the list know that I now have the CDB version 9
utilities working in my shop with the help of the onsite vendor support.
The issues I was having stemmed from requiring the latest CDB software,
some customization to make the product work as we required and issues
with the Tech DB2 environment I was using for testing.
