Pre migration steps for V9.5 on LUW
Hi All,

We are moving from V8.2 to V9.5 on our AIX box. Just curious, if any one can
help us in the pre - migration check / steps or if they have faced any issue
that they would like to share. Any manual / documentation on pre - migration
check would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Check the release notes, migration guide, and the What’s New. You can get them at www.software.ibm.com/data/db2/9 then click on technical resources, and download pdf manuals. pg

Re: Pre migration steps for V9.5 on LUW
(in response to Philip Gunning)
Also make sure you peruse What's new on 9.1 before you look at 9.5,
since you are going 8.2 to 9.5.

I'm going to production with the same migration in Feb (Windows).

I checked both What's New docs, then read the docs on subjects that
changed / interested me.

Then the pre-migration checklist, which you can get from the migration
guide Phil pointed you to.

Make sure you get printouts of certain things, get db cfg, get dbm cfg,
list packages, etc.

Also make sure you have OFFLINE backups in case you need to go back to
8.2.

Our shop runs mostly via home grown apps and packages via Citrix, so I
also upgraded the Clients and we regression tested all apps / packages.

Make sure you reorg(convert to type 2 indexes if you haven't
already)/run new statistics and rebind all packages after migration.

If I can be of help, be glad to.

Thanks,

Scott F. Sloss

Re: Pre migration steps for V9.5 on LUW
(in response to Scott Sloss)
Hi,

I have completed numerous migrations and basically you need to address the
two areas,

1. Migration itself i..e restore mighrate in-situ or db2imigr and db2
migrate.
2. Using self tuning memory.
3. Understand the process model moving to threads and the effect on db2
agents.

Many Thanks,

Mark Horrocks.
