Display OF V8 DBRM Its All Greek to me!
Hi everyone.
For my own sneaky reasons I want to read a DBRM. However, they are now in UNICODE so my terminal emulator translates the text into ancient greek.
Any suggestions on how we could display the text.
Thanks.

In Browse, you can use command DISPLAY UTF8.

You could try DISPLAY UNICODE, but it never works for me, which is why I suggested UTF8.

Ed:

There is an IBM fix that will translate the UNICODE to EBCIDIC in ISPF.
However, there are a series of control fields that are not translated
correctly. We provide this functionality in our DBRM Check and IBM provides
it in their Bind Manager.

If you have the proper release of ISPF, you can issue a DISPLAY ASCII
on the command line in browse or edit.

In ISPF, from z/OS 1.8+, in Edit or View you can use line command SOURCE ASCII. In z/OS 1.10 there is an option in Browse as well, but I can't remember what it is now and don't have z/OS 1.10 at this site.

One option I haven't seen was downloading the DBRM in BINARY transfer and
then using any of the PC tools that can display unicode or ascii. Notepad
and wordpad both work - you do need to be aware that it is a block transfer
not line. MS Word even flows the text but seems to do some weird page
breaks. This works because unicode base is the same as ASCII ie native pc
code.

None of these do a really good job of formatting but the price is right.
