DB2 V9 upgrade issue with DSNTIJTC due to Change Data Capture

DB2 V9 upgrade issue with DSNTIJTC due to Change Data Capture
We have upgraded to DB2 V9 and everything went very well so fat except
issue with Change data Capture(CDC) on SYSROUTINES and SYSPACKSTMT.
Please check for Change Data Capture on the tables SYSROUTINES and
SYSPACKSTMT. If It is on please disable it. Otherwise the job DSNTIJTC will
abend and you will not be able to disable it without fallback to V8( restore
from backup).

Fortunately the system on which we were upgrading had an offline backup
since it was Sandbox so we were able to restore it and Disable CDC and it was
successful.

You will get bellow error:
SQL CODE IS: -148
SQL MESSAGE TEXT: THE SOURCE TABLE SYSIBM.SYSROUTINES CANNOT BE
ALTERED.
REASON 02
SQL STATEMENT: ALTER TABLE SYSIBM.SYSROUTINES
ALTER "WLM_ENVIRONMENT"
SET DATA TYPE VARCHAR(96) .

During DB2 V8 upgrade the job automatically disable Change datacapture on
these tables but IBM has removed that functionality in V9 and no document is
there for that to check for CDC.

Very soon it will be fixed by APAR PK72214.

Thanks

We've gotten through almost two years of migrations without finding this.
The process will be more like the V8 process at this point, disabling CDC and
asking you to turn it back on, when appropriate.

Re: DB2 9 upgrade issue with DSNTIJTC due to Change Data Capture

Yes it should be disabled but during v8 upgrade the CATMAINT and CATNFM
disable it automaticaly and you need to reenable it if needed. But during V9
upgrade it does not happen. It does not disable it and it is not documented
also in Installation guide of V9.

Below is the document in V8 upgrade:

Use of data capture on DB2 catalog tables. The CATMAINT and CATENFM
#jobs disable data capture, which you must reactivate at a later time. #For
more information about data capture, see Migration step 21: Enable change
data capture. #

For v9 it is not documented anywhere.

IBM is already working on this and by March 15 they should release new APAR.

We got that error too, because the requirement wasn't documented for DB2 9. However, we simply removed change data capture from the catalog tables and reran CATMAINT -- we did not have to restore from backup.

Cathy first of all thanks for sharing your log ofloading jobs.

Here once Catmaint failed it did not allow us to change the CDC. Since the
tablspace was unavailable. So we had o restore from backup and after that
we disabled it and it went fine.

You're right!! I remember now -- we had to make the change from another data sharing member. If we did not have data sharing, we would have been toast.

DB2 V9 Upgrade
(in response to Cathy Taddei)
Hi All,
We are currenty in the planning stages for upgrading from V8.1 RSU0907 to
V9.1. in 2010.
Given all the other activites that are going on in our shop, we could be
dealing with a tight schedule. So, we trying to find out, based other
organizations experience, the minimum time frame recommended to
implement V9 to conversion mode and new function mode. Although we want
to know the time frame from the day of ordering the software to
implementatioin in production. But we are particulary interested in the
amount of time required to adequatley test the software. I understand that
each envrionemt is different. We just looking for some guidelines. Any thnig
you an share would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Re: DB2 V9 Upgrade
(in response to Darsh Mann)
We staggered test and production: Day 1 -- implement V9CM in test; Day 31 -- Implement V9CM in prod; Day 61 -- implement V9NFM in test; Day 91 -- implement V9NFM in prod. These times are approximate as we had many more than two environments, but this is the "rhythm" we used.

More important than what particular dates were used: Important that no major OS upgrades take place, nor major DB2 upgrades (we had to make two exceptions on the DB2 side due to problems requiring fixes in the DB2V9 utility suite, and these were implemented successfully). Important that _at least_ end-of-month processing, and preferably end-of-quarter processing as well, take place in V9CM, so you can roll back if a monthly/quarterly job shows a DB2 error which requires backout.

Discuss with your salesrep/techreps whether to have an open problem ticket with IBM when you go to V9CM in production.

Re: DB2 V9 Upgrade

I would also suggest that you don't get too comfortable developing
with DB2 V9 in test to implement in production with V8. Lots of
people have been bitten by V9's "conversion mode" changes that work
fine in test, but aren't compatible with V8.

It also wouldn't hurt to take inventory of any plans or packages that
haven't been rebound in a while on a current version of DB2.
