DB2 9.5 UDB on LUW index reorg monitoring

DB2 9.5 UDB on LUW index reorg monitoring
Hi all,
since Sunday we have now a reorganisation of table indexes running.
After the data-TS has been changed to large this is the first run,
though it means
the RID are converted to large.
Is there a way to monitor the progress?
The snapshots for Tablereorgs or the db2pd ... -reorgs doesn't show
anything.
Thanks for help.
Georg

Unfortunately, db2pd -d -reorgs does not show index reorgs, neither does the snaptab_reorg convenience view at this time. PG

Hi,

My suggestion is to check O/S and ensure activity is happening at the disk/memory/cpu also check filesystem usage if being used for underlying tablespace containers.

Many Thanks,

Re: DB2 9.5 UDB on LUW index reorg monitoring

Georg, after re-reading your post, you could do an application snapshot and
look at details regarding db2reorg application. You should see changes in
rows read and rows written, and bufferpool activity, as well as cpu time. PG

Re: DB2 9.5 UDB on LUW index reorg monitoring

You can also look in the dbdiag.log file and you will see index rebuild stanza's. This is helpful if you have a table that has a lot of indexes on it you can see how many have been reorg'd.

Re: DB2 9.5 UDB on LUW index reorg monitoring
(in response to Frank Crissy)
Thanks for the answers, but
in a DB with a couple of other active agents (~200) the disk/memory/cpu activity is a quit difficult monitoring tool.
What I did was just following in a bash file
**************************************
#!/bin/sh
db2 get snapshot for application agentid $1 global
**************************************
and did a regular  |egrep "Rows written|Rows read".
If you wrap that all in a script and monitor it with "watch -n
monagent.sh"
you can see the increase of the row usage.

But what I don't see is the percentage of already done work do make an estimation or at least
values which allow the calculation of this. The job I did (which is meanwhile through ... puuuuh) succeeded finally.

But several other tables also want to have the advantage of getting rid of the 255 rows/page limit and the TS space limit.
It took more than 2 days fo a table with
4.2Billion rows (Decimal(18),INTEGER,INTEGER,REAL,REAL)
whereby first three values are used for the PK and each of them has a separate index.

The final output of above command was something like (whereby the process was cancelled twice before due to not available system resources)

[[login to unmask email]~]$ date;monagent 40465
Tue Dec  8 14:32:19 CET 2009
Rows read                                  = 95301358562
Rows written                               = 63447614940

The above mentioned monitoring would be sufficient if somebody knows how the amount of rows
(at least those  which are read) are calculated.
Regards
Georg
