z/os db2 v8 to v9 conversion roadblock - what am I being so dense about ? - SOLVED
It was, indeed, a case of the proper sdsnload not getting the maintenance
applied. In this case, the lpar has a different catalog for the db2
datasets so, even though the sdsnload ( and all of the others ) exits -
with the same name - it is cataloged to a different pack. Thus, my
confusion - I verified all of the dataset names, etc but didn't compare the
disk volume serials. We think that this was to allow a fix to be tested
without affecting the other lpars a couple of years ago. Copied the
members of all of the libraries from an lpar where the patches were on( and
where SMP/E is actually run) into the libraries on this lpar, re-ipled, and
success.

Thanks to all who replied.

If this is still a problem,

Does your site have any search order intercept products?
PDSMAN (as memory serves) can intercept calls to PDS's.

Does your started task JCL include a joblib or steplib?
If not, can you add one pointing to the correct library and see if it
comes up?

If the JCL is rolling up to linklist, is there a residual entry there?
Can you supply the contents of the linklist entries? /d prog, lnklst

I have both V7 and v9 on V9 early code w/o any problem.

Yeah - it's been this way as far back as I can remember - ERLY code is
generally backward/forward compatible between "adjacent" versions of
DB2, to minimise the need for IPLs. I've run DB2 V7 on V8 ERLY code and
DB2 V8 on V7 ERLY code with no problems. Not had to deal with V9 yet
though!

Also, even though I don't think it's supported in the manuals, you can
add sub-system definitions and then use the MVS commands to dynamically
update the SSN details without an IPL.

As previously stated, I think the problem here is more likely to be
related to code roll-out procedures or old versions being referenced in
the LLA, as the DIAGNOSE DISPLAY MEPL is showing the wrong versions.

Good luck,

Mick.

If, however, you have UK44315 applied to your V8 early code, you can run
DB2 9 under V8 early code. This also enables you run some "future
release of DB2 for z/OS". Wonder what they mean by that :-)

There is also an earlier PTF that is specific for running 9 under V8
early code, but I can't find it at the moment.
