Re: Load Problem
(in response to Jose Antonio)
Well, DSNU338I is saying that there is a problem with the data specification for your RINFILLER column

The doc says, for VARCHAR data

“The length in bytes must be specified in a 2-byte binary field preceding the data. (The length does not include the 2-byte field itself.) The length field must start in the column that is specified as start in the POSITION option. If :end is used, it is ignored.”

Does your data conform to this requirement (2 byte length field followed by the actual data)?

Re: Load Problem

Hi Phil!

I don't think data starts with a 2 byte length field... I'm converting a VSAM to DB2 table as we are setting up VSAM Transparency tool.
I used VARCHAR as it is 333 in length and CHAR it's not enough.

Any suggestion!!?!?!

Thanks a lot!

Re: Load Problem
(in response to Jose Antonio)
It's been way too long since I had to code LOAD statements, but I think the field specification refers to the "data type" of the input data and not necessarily to the column data type

I'd try changing my VARCHAR spec to

RINFILLER POSITION(13:345) CHAR)

And I think that will tell DB2 that your data is character data to be loaded into the RINFILLER column (which is VARCHAR) - of course, every entry will be 333 bytes long

I may be wrong, but it should only take a moment to try

I would first perform an unload of the table to get the column specifications and compare the input data against the table definitions.

OK, just to be sure

At position 13 in the input file there are two bytes with the value x'014D' and there are 333 MORE bytes following (ie the 333 does NOT include the two bytes of length)?

Re: Load Problem
(in response to Phil Grainger)
The error message indicates that the column specification in the LOAD stmt is invalid, so I recommend reviewing the complete DDL for the table definition.

For example, is this in a UniCode tablespace? Is the column nullable (so NULLIF is missing)?

Also please specify which version of DB2 for z/OS this is for.

Hi agai Phil!

I have checked data and this 2 byte length field exists! And it's exactly 333...so now I am lost...

If this is not the problem, any other possibility?

Thanks a lot!!!!!

Well, DSNU338I is saying that there is a problem with the data specification for your RINFILLER column

The doc says, for VARCHAR data

"The length in bytes must be specified in a 2-byte binary field preceding the data. (The length does not include the 2-byte field itself.) The length field must start in the column that is specified as start in the POSITION option. If :end is used, it is ignored."

Does your data conform to this requirement (2 byte length field followed by the actual data)?

Re: Load Problem
(in response to Jose Antonio)
I believe you problem is the definition of RINFILLER

The syntax should be as follows: RINFILLER POSITION(13) VARCHAR(333)
