XML Design Assistance

XML Design Assistance
Esteemed DB2ers -

Our applications folk are in the early stages of designing their first XML tables (V9 z/OS). We as DBAs / DB2 sysprogs have been asked for recommendations and would like to pose the db2-listers for best practices / lessons learned.

Some of the initial questions that we're trying to answer are from basic design (ie should we alter existing structures, adding xml columns or keeping xml columns in separate objects) to system setup / performance (ie impact on cpu, memory, bufferpools). And OF COURSE anything else you're willing to share. From the design standpoint, we're particularly concerned about affects on performance, and concerns related to backup / recovery.

Please reply with your experiences and any links you have to share.

Thank you all.

Re: XML Design Assistance
(in response to Jeffrey Agosta)
Hi Jeff,
Some resources can help you get started on this. There is a developerWorks DB2 XML wiki: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/display/db2xml/Home
For DB2 for z/OS XML specific content, see the blog: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/blogs/page/purexml (not very active recently, as we were asked to use a new template that didn't work well).
and the wiki: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/wikis/display/db2xml/DB2+for+zOS+pureXML

Let me know if you have specific questions.

Happy holidays!
