External CF and system Managed Duplex Lock

External CF and system Managed Duplex Lock
Hi everyone

I'm looking for a straw poll of how many people out there actually have the
following configuration :

1. Datsharing (active)
2. External dedicated CF (not a peer z machine) as well as internal CFs on
the main Z machines.
3. System Managed Duplexing of the Lock structure switched on.

Happy to accept private emails as well as here to the list ...

Many thanks and hope everybody is well.

With luck see you all at IDUG NA 2011.

Why do you ask, LPB? Are IBM conducting a covert survey? ;o)

Hi Raymond

Good to see you keep an eye on my (rare) threads ;-)

Nope, I'm just asking for my own personal understanding as I was speaking to
a friend in the US who said that many people do it.

So I decided to ask .. And see how many people come back to me.

How is BMC these days? Please give Steve Mundy a kick for me and tell him to
get in touch :-)

Speak soon

Leslie

Do a lot of people have external, dedicated CF's? I thought most people used ICF's. That's what IBM told us when they sold us ours 4 years ago.

External all the way. We do not want to share and ICF with general purpose lpars.
It's too much of a risk for our shop.

In what respect?
If you are sharing CP's between GP LPARs and CFs, there is a performance risk.
But, if you have dedicated CPs for CFs, what is the risk?

PS: It's cheaper, too!
