Big DB2 basics

Big DB2 basics
Hello list,

Long time no speak I am lurking like the best of them these days.

I need to point someone in the direction of some DB2 for z/OS basics - I really mean basics, like 2this is DML, Data Manipulation Language, it's needed to change the data in the tables" kind of thing.

Any ideas please? Does anyone have a DB2 for Dummies-style thing?

Thanks.

There is a site http://www.datatrain.com that has DB2 basics and advanced. Some
is very basic. It is online based and has some good interactive bits. I'm not
sure about the price.

Hi Aurora, long time no see :-)

If you need a presentatioon there's a good one, DB2 for z/OS Fundamentals
- A journey into the wonderland of DB2. It's a very very basic but good
presentation, maybe useful just a brief introduction or text.

As a book I read some time ago DB2 for z/OS Version 8 (now 9/10) DBA

to read it after a while you started to work with DB2

Re: Big DB2 basics

Max,

the presentation sounds ideal - where do I find it?

The problem with a book is that I cannot send it via email - and also
that really until the person in question has understood the complexity
of the subject I can't really force them to buy books.

Incidentally, said person is a wizkid but lived in the O-word-place
until last week...

Thanks.

Dan,

Why would you want to drink PBR in New Lenox, IL.

There are much better places in Will County than that. Even cheaper.

Dan,

Why would you want to drink PBR in New Lenox, IL.

There are much better places in Will County than that. Even cheaper.

Warning...I get a tiny amount of money (not enough to buy a Big Mac, and
certainly not enough to buy a beer) if you buy this so I may be biased.

I just finished updating the DB2 10 for z/OS DBA Certification Guide. It
won't be out until May. However, the DB2 9 book is out now.

The reason I mention it is because as I was updating it I was also
reading it, and it is actually a nice "intro" to DB2 for z/OS. It
assumes the reader knows nothing about DB2 going in. Plus, if a person
reads the whole thing they will have all the information they need to
take the certification test and pass. It is fairly expensive so you
might be able to find a cheaper intro out there.

Also, there is a DB2 for Dummies book out there. I never read it so I
really can't comment on it.

Cheers,
Dan

P.S. I was not entirely truthful. Royalties from the sale of a single
copy can buy me two beers on Thursday "crappy beer night" at Buzzard
Billies in Lincoln NE, two National Bohemians at the Knotty Pine in
Baltimore, MD, or three PBR's at the White Horse in New Lenox, IL. I'm
pretty sure there is no way it would get me a beer in Italy.

Dan,

You must have missed the Wharf Rat Special a few years ago:

1 Natty Boh
1 shot of Pikesville Rye
1 Moon Pie

All for $.75 ! In 1985, they raised the price to $1.25.
