Adding an additional sortwork file

Robert Knight

Adding an additional sortwork file
I am having a discussion with a person on adding an additional sort work file.

My opinion is to run the idcams and create the DSNDB07.DSNDB05 table space.

Since it is next to impossible to stop/start DSNDB07 to wait for the next recycle and all should be fine.

Once the recycle occurs it should be available in R/W

Any problems with this method?

V8 or V9?
I thought that in V9 we were supposed to use the REXX exec.

Re: Adding an additional sortwork file

From V7 redbook (par 7.11.4 Adding work files)

Now you do not need to STOP the DSNDB07 and production to add or remove a
tablespace. See also 'Creating additional work file table spaces' in Admin
guide.

So it seems it's a false problem...

Re: Adding an additional sortwork file

Robert,

You just add a sort workfile/tablespace, so it is NOT necessary to
STOP/START
(recycle) the database (DSNDB07) at all.
Create VSAM dataset, then create tablespace, over. The added sort
workfile/tablespace
is in RW immediately.
