Hi Satish,

if you are interested in the application performance issue and which tables, columns are used by the DB2 optimizer
have a look at "Performance Monitoring and Tuning Guide" , SC18-9851, Chapter 11.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards

Enrico Haak

Dear Esteemed Listers:

Environment:
z/OS - V 1.10
DB2 - V9.1 NFM

This is a question that was brought up in the morning discussion today. In the SQL Reference manual, we do have description of each catalog table regarding when it is updated, and if the data in this table is updatable or not. But, what we don't have is why a particular catalog table is used for? For example, SYSIBM.SYSCOLDIST table is used in determining the accesspath but we do not know why and where SYSIBM.SYSCOLDISTSTATS is used.

The question here is, do we have any documentation that specifies what is the purpose of each catalog table and how the data populated in it (either through RUNSTATS or any other DB2 utility) is used?

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,

Satish Srikakulapu
