So where's the best Steak in Dallas

Phil Grainger

So where's the best Steak in Dallas
This dine-around discussion is making me hungry...

I'm wondering where is the best place in Dallas to go for a steak -
bearing in mind I have no car, so a sensible taxi or DART ride is about
my limit from the Hyatt.

Also, although I can't say "money is no object" it's nice to be able to
divide dollars by 2 to get pounds :)

Thanks

I can't tell you the "best place", everyone has an opinion on that. I
can tell you my two favorite steak houses when I'm out for a great steak
or someone else is buying... Papa's Steak House and Bob's Steak House
(no relation to all the other Bob's on this list today). They are
both 15 minutes from downtown and both will require a car or a taxi...
no rail to these...

There are two steak houses in downtown Dallas that one could
presumably walk to from the IDUG convention, Morton's on Elm St.
and Dakota's on Akard. Both are of the high-dollar variety (that's
Texan for expensive). Also I'm not entirely sure how safe it is to
wander downtown Dallas afoot...

Re: So where's the best Steak in Dallas
(in response to Robert Galambos)
Hey, I'm right there with ya on the over rated, Cowboy Bob.
Having worked downtown in Big D a number of years ago, I
was merely suggesting what I knew to be around there. This
being cattle country, there are plenty of cheaper places to
get a good steak, I just don't know what's close around the
Hyatt.
Being from Fort Worth and not Dallas, my family and I tend
to stick around Ft Worth or Arlington at dinner time, so I'll be
finding out what's in the West End along with the rest of y'all.

I can tell you it's not a bad walk from the Hyatt to anywhere
in the West End, and you go right through the Kennedy
assassination site (Dealey Plaza) to get there. Dallasites pretty
much loathe that whole Kennedy stigma, but being from FW,
I'm immune.

Re: So where's the best Steak in Dallas

Just been looking at the small print on hyatt.com and it says of the
DART

"Cost is $2.50 per person for all-day premium pass.
Cost is $1.00 per person for day pass within immediate downtown area.
Hours of operation are 5:30am - 12:30am. "

BUT that looks to be out of date, as dart.org says

"All Day Passes valid for unlimited rides on the date of purchase only
through 3 a.m. the following day.

Local $3.00
Premium $5.00"

and for single rides

"Local $1.50
Premium $2.50"

So two single tickets = 1 full days travel - That can't be bad
