9:00 to 10:15 Ways to access DB2 from a Java/web Application
Presenter: John Mallonee, Highmark
DB2 has become an open database platform and is accessible from web
applications through a variety of different methods. What are the
available methods for getting to DB2 through Java and which ones are
good candidates for different situations? This session will discuss
several different approaches and when each is a good solution. It is
designed to show the application developer how it's done.

This presentation explores how companies can quickly locate
bottlenecks in their DB2 batch job streams and then construct
strategies to ensure that as much work as possible is completed
during their nightly batch window. This presentation will also
explore techniques for ensuring that long running DB2 jobs don’t
experience excessively long rollbacks that would keep critical
online applications from being available for extended lengths of
time.

Monitoring and tuning in a distributed DB2 z/OS environment can be a
complex task. Let’s take a look at how DB2 z/OS handles distributed
requests and how to best address various performance issues. This
presentation will provide guidelines for improving DB2 z/OS
performance for distributed applications.

2:30 to 3:45 DB2 V8 z/OS – What’s New with Indexes
Presenter: Randy Ebersole, IBM
DB2 Version 8 for z/OS introduces a wide range of enhancements for
DB2 index management. This presentation will discuss the many new
features such partition changes, index key management and predicate
changes. These new features will be important to an early
exploitation of DB2 V8.
