I have protested these types of messages before. I don't feel this is
the forum for soliciting my employees. If it continues, I'll ask my
management to pull out of the group. Thank you.

This sounds like a standard management response. I like to hear about job
openings even though I'm not interested in changing jobs because it
provides another gauge of the job market.

Mgmt. shouldn't be worried about losing quality employees if
they are competitive in the marketplace. I would rather have Mgrs. drop

Re: FW: Job Opening for DBA
(in response to Shyvetta Brewster)
I've watched the various postings since your comments and taken a good bit
of ribbing about 'stirring things up'. I will respectfully disagree with
your position.

The question of posting jobs openings does come up occasionally, so I
checked the rules of the listserv. http://www.idugdb2-l.org/#Q14

Can I post a job opening or post my resume if I am looking for work?
If you are a recruiter or work directly for a company trying to fill a
position, feel free to post a job opening. Make sure you include the
location for the open position (city, country, etc.) and your contact
information so any interested parties can contact you directly. If you are
looking for work, please do not post your resume, but you can post a short
description of the type of work you are looking, the location, and your
contact information.

Considering that this particular list is for Central PA, and there are not
that many DB2 shops here, I think this is a very appropriate forum to make
people aware of the few openings if, and when, they do exist. I checked
the archives for this group, and your response has generated more messages
than the list has had in the past 3 months. I guess this is a good thing,
as it means more people are now aware of this opening and less likely to
have ignored the original posting.

I have protested these types of messages before. I don't feel this is the
forum for soliciting my employees. If it continues, I'll ask my
management to pull out of the group. Thank you.

Mark,

I consider it VERY appropriate to post job openings here. With the ups and
downs of our industry, the possibility of good IT professionals being out
of work is always a reality and I see no harm in job postings, especially
within the by-laws.

Feel free to "stir things up" in the future as well!

Re: FW: Job Opening for DBA
(in response to Edwin B Couser)
If I were a manager, looking for qualified DB2 DBA's, what better forum
than the DB2 user's group.

The alternative is $12-15,000 head hunter fee. (this may be a low
estimate)

Mark,

I consider it VERY appropriate to post job openings here. With the ups
and downs of our industry, the possibility of good IT professionals
being out of work is always a reality and I see no harm in job postings,
especially within the by-laws.

Feel free to "stir things up" in the future as well!

Sincerely,
Ed Couser - DB2 DBA

I've watched the various postings since your comments and taken a good
bit of ribbing about 'stirring things up'. I will respectfully disagree
with your position.

If you
are looking for work, please do not post your resume, but you can post a
short description of the type of work you are looking, the location, and
your contact information.

Considering that this particular list is for Central PA, and there are
not that many DB2 shops here, I think this is a very appropriate forum
to make people aware of the few openings if, and when, they do exist. I
checked the archives for this group, and your response has generated
more messages than the list has had in the past 3 months. I guess this
is a good thing, as it means more people are now aware of this opening
and less likely to have ignored the original posting.

I have protested these types of messages before. I don't feel this is
the forum for soliciting my employees. If it continues, I'll ask my
management to pull out of the group. Thank you.

In case anyone is interested or knows someone who is...

There is a job opening for an experienced DB2 Database Administrator at
PHEAA in Harrisburg. Information is available at our website (
http://www.pheaa.org/ ) under "Employment Opportunities" on the right
hand column. You can obtain full details, apply on-line, or forward the
information to someone you think may be interested right from the
website.
