DB2 for z/OS Version 8 Performance Topics: Part 3
DB2 for z/OS V8
Performance Topics ? Part 3
Conference Call
Thursday, December 2 at 10:00 AM PT

Thanks to the efforts of DBAs, systems programmers and application
developers many customers have DB2 systems that deliver outstanding
performance. The challenge is to maintain those excellent performance
levels in the face of ever changing requirements. The introduction of
a major new version of DB2 is certainly going to be a significant
event ? but how will performance be affected?

The key to success is to be able to anticipate the changes that will
impact performance before they occur. It's such an important topic
that Lightyear Consulting is offering a series of conference calls to
help you understand the performance implications of DB2 V8. The last
of these three calls, DB2 for z/OS V8 Performance Topics - Part 3,
will take place on Thursday, December 2nd.

This technical call will help you understand the following
performance topics:

1. Star Join Enhancements

2. REOPT (Once)

3. Global Temporary Table Drop Option

4. Lock Avoidance

5. Non-Correlated "Exists" Subquery

6. IN LIST Changes

7. Faster Short Prepares

8. Plan Table Changes

9. Visual Explain Changes

We're fortunate to have Tom Moulder back as the presenter for this
call. Tom is a recognized expert in the field of z/OS performance and
tuning; his career includes over 30 years devoted to the tuning of
z/OS and its related subsystems. He has published magazine articles
in magazines (most recently in the February issue of z/Journal),
presented at conferences around the world (most recently at IDUG
Europe in Nice, Fr.) and served as an expert on the www.search390.com
web site. He is chairman of Southwest CMG, is participating within
the conference planning committee for national CMG this year and is
active in all aspects of CMG. Tom is a certified Database
Administrator for DB2 for z/OS Version 8 and is currently a Principal
z/Series Consultant with Lightyear Consulting.
