Indiana DB2 User Group Wednesday, June 4
Our next Indiana DB2 Users Group meeting will be on Wednesday, June 4 at the
Conseco Conference Center. We will have a full day of topics covering both
mainframe and distributed environments. The morning session (8:30 AM light
breakfast, presentation 9 - noon) will focus on the mainframe, and the
afternoon session (1 PM- 4 PM) will focus on distributed. Please let me
know if you'd like to have a lunch provided for you. RSVP to
[login to unmask email] Feel free to come for the topics that you're
interested in; you do not need to stay for the entire day.

Bio
Jay Yothers is a DB2 for z/OS architect and an IBM Master Inventor. He has
participated in the development of a number of major DB2 functions, from the
very first release of DB2 through Distributed Data Base, Data Sharing, and
Relational Objects to 64-bit virtual exploitation. He currently has
architectural responsibilities across the DB2 for z/OS product. He also
represents DB2 for z/OS on a number of design and architecture boards,
within the DB2 organization, among the DB2 family of products, and across IBM.

Planning Your Migration to DB2 for z/OS V9 and V8
DB2 for z/OS Version 8 and 9 (V8 and V9) have many new features. This
presentation will discuss planning to migrate to V8 and V9, preparing to use
the new functions. We will focus a bit more on V9 in this presentation. If
you are migrating to V8, we will cover the planning points, and some of the
V9 planning work is also helpful as you move to V8. We assume that you know
DB2 V8 and V9. We'll emphasize process and recommendations from many other
customers, with pointers to more information. The content of this session
will focus on the tasks of the person who plans or installs DB2. Systems
programmers and database administrators generally perform this task, but
there is work for all DB2 users.
Why z/OS for your Data Warehouse
This presentation focuses on Data Warehousing / Business Intelligence
features present and coming in the DB2 for z/OS product. It covers the
architecture and technology of DB2 for z/OS in relation to decision support
environments. It describes capabilities that the System z platform and the
z/OS operating system provide to deliver a mission-critical solution,
including a discussion of the new zIIP processors.

Lee Goddard is the Mid-West Team Lead for IBM's BI Best Practice Team and
has led hundreds of DB2 implementations in the last dozen years as well as
60+ TB Class Data Warehouses. Lee has been with IBM over 26 years and is
certified in HW, SW, and Consulting. Lee has presented Leadership and
Technical topics in several countries, both internal IBM and external
forums. Lee has authored many white papers, workshops, and planning session
methodologies, including the precepts for each chapter for a possible book
called the "17 Laws of Building Terabyte Class DB Systems".

The state of the Data Warehouse: Trends in the industry
This will be a review of trends and a look at where the industry is going.
While it's obvious that most warehouses are growing, what are the limits?
What are the pressures on the infrastructure and delivery teams? Lee will
discuss what is working for clients and he'll be our 'tour guide', showing
us where the 'rocks are in the river'.

Data Warehousing Implementation (Balanced Configuration Unit)
Lee will review IBM's current Balanced Warehouse portfolio on AIX, Linux,
and Windows. In addition, Lee will discuss a new module that IBM is working
on, to more prescriptively define the ETL Module.

You may want to review the Balanced Warehouse website before the meeting to
gain some understanding of what it is.
