March 2008 Seattle DB2 User Group Meeting
DB2 Enthusiasts Invited!



Join us Tuesday March 25, 2008, 8:00-11:00 am for technical insight into
DB2 topics that should interest everyone, including Application
Developers.



For our User Group meeting, we will have 2 speakers, Curt Cotner will
present IBM Data Studio - Data and Application Life Cycle Management and
Hong-Lee Yu will present Introduction to Rational Data Architect - a
next-generation data modeling and information integration tool.



Curt Cotner is the Vice President & Chief Technology Officer for
Database Servers, an IBM Fellow, and a member of the IBM Academy of
Technology. Curt is the chief technology officer for the DB2 family and
Informix IDS database servers, and has both management and technology
oversight responsibility for all the client software offerings used with
DB2 and IDS. This includes the client runtime APIs (JDBC, .NET, CLI,
J-LinQ, etc.) and the application development and administration tools
offerings (IBM Data Studio). Prior to taking his current assignment,
Curt was the chief architect for the DB2 for z/OS development team.



Hong-Lee Yu is a senior technical staff member (STSM) at IBM and the
chief architect for Rational Data Architect, a product he and his team
has built from ground-up 4 years ago. He has over 20 years of
experience in the area of software development with special interests in
modeling tool, database design and SOA.



IBM Data Studio - Data and Application Life Cycle Management: provides
an overview of IBM's new database and application life cycle management
solution. Data Studio will provide a suite of integrated tools that
allow the DBA or application developer to manage their DB2 and IDS
databases. The presentation will show what is available today, and the
expected rollout of new capabilities in 2008 and 2009.



Introduction to Rational Data Architect - a next-generation data
modeling and information integration tool: Rational Data Architect is a
next-generation data modeling and information integration tool from IBM.
Hong-Lee Yu, Chief architect for RDA will give an overview of RDA that
covers the aspects of use cases:


Data Modeling

- modeling your database

- optimizing design

- communicating design

- managing changes

Information Integration

- Mapping editor for hub-and-spoke information integration

Top-down SOA modeling
Data Modeling and application modeling (UML)
How to use RDA, RSA and WBM for end-to-end SOA modeling
