Agenda for September 8th, 2011

8:30-9:00 Breakfast & Announcements
Sponsored By: SoftBase Systems

9:00-10:15 "DB2 10 for zOS Temporal Technology"
Presenter: Paul Wirth, IBM Corporation.
This presentation will discuss DB2 10 for zOS Temporal Technology. Temporal Technology uses a temporal table (a table that records the period of time when a row is valid). This translates to columns being added to application table to track a system period (SYSTEM_TIME) and application period (BUSINESS_TIME).
10:15-10:30 Break

10:30-11:45 "What's new for DB2 Clients and Drivers?"
Presenter: Paul Wirth, IBM Corporation.
IBM's strategy is to remove the reliance on the DB2 Connect Gateways and replace DB2 Connect with the IBM Data Server Drivers or Clients. While DB2 Connect licenses (in the form of DB2 Connect license files) are still required, you can replace DB2 Connect Gateways with the IBM Data Server Drivers or Clients and receive equivalent or superior function. In addition, you can reduce complexity, improve performance, and deploy application solutions with smaller footprints for your business users. IBM has also simplified the configuration of clients and drivers by replacing the database directory with a single XML configuration file. The purpose of this presentation is to review changes and enhancements in creating connections to IBM's relational databases. It is for Architects, Database Administrators, DB2 Connect Support Staff and Developers.

11:45 -12:15 Lunch - Sponsored By: SoftBase Systems.

12:15-1:00 - Lunch/Learn - with SoftBase Systems - Presenter : Mike Arnold & Scott Garrett - Product Developers, SoftBase Systems.
1:00-1:15 Break

1:15-2:45 "DB2 Accounting 101 - Performance Details for the Application Developer"
Presenter: Randy Ebersole, IBM Corporation.
This presentation will cover the Accounting related reports that provide a view of performance from an application perspective.

We'll discuss how the statistics from the Accounting reports can be interpreted into evaluating performance. We'll also discuss what the possible DB2 tuning choices are for various situations.

2:45-3:00 Break

3:00-3:45 - Question Panel - with Randy Ebersole, IBM Corporation; Paul Wirth, IBM Corporation, Stan Goodwin, IBM Corporation; Moderator - Lori Galluzzo, HP Enterprise Services.
