Title: Lessons learned from customer DB2 Health Check Studies

Abstract: This all day session seminar will introduce and discuss the major lessons to be learned from customer DB2 Health Check Studies carried out by DB2 for z/OS Development and provide recommended best practices in each area. The objectives are to: introduce and discuss the most common issues, share the experience gained from customer health check studies, share the experience from live customer production incidents, provide proven recommended best practice, and to encourage proactive behavior. The following topics will be covered:

• WLM Policy Setup
• Balanced Design across CICS and DB2
• Disaster Recovery
• Software Maintenance
• Use of Flashcopy
• Continuous Availability vs. Fast Failover
• Preventative Multiple Data Sharing Groups
• Running Multiple DB2 Subsystems on same LPAR
• Normal DB2 Warm Restart vs. Restart Light
• Storage Tuning

Biography:
John is an IBM Distinguished Engineer reporting to the Director for z/OS Development at the IBM Silicon Valley Lab. He has extensive experience of DB2 in terms of systems, database and applications design. He specializes in design for high performance and data sharing. He is one of IBM's foremost authorities for implementing high end database / transaction processing applications.



Biography:
Florence Dubois is an IBM Certified Consulting IT Specialist and a member of the DB2 for z/OS Development SWAT team. In this role, she consults for worldwide customers on a variety of technical topics, including implementation and migration, design for high performance and availability, performance and tuning, system health checks, disaster recovery. Florence presents regularly at conferences and has co-authored several IBM Redbooks publications.

Via Public Transportation

Subway:
Recommended directions to One MetroTech from Penn Station:
Take the A subway,(A Downtown & Brooklyn via 8 Av Express), exiting at the 7th stop, which is Jay Street/Borough Hall. Follow the signs for Myrtle Promenade/Jay Str/Metrotech and proceed up the staircase on that end of the subway. Then, follow the sign for West side of Jay Street to exit the subway to street level. This will position you directly across the street from National Grid (One Metrotech Center.) (National Grid is located across from the Marriott Hotel and NY City Transit/MTA . )

The A, F and C IND trains stop at Jay Street. The numbers 2, 3, 4, 5 IRT trains stop at Borough Hall. The M and R BMT all stop at Lawrence Street.
Long Island Railroad:
The stop closest to MetroTech is Flatbush Avenue. From there, take the 2, 3, 4, or 5 train to Boro Hall, or the M or R train to Lawrence Street, and then walk two blocks to MetroTech. Or:

Take the #41 bus near the LIRR station on Flatbush Avenue to Smit. h Street and Livingston Streets. Walk along Smith Street one block; it will become Jay Street at the corner of Fulton Street; continue walking along Jay Street two blocks to MetroTech
