Hi List,
I did a load of prod image copy to test region using DSN1COPY and ran successfully. The rebuild index failed with following error. Please let me know what is the issue.
INDEXES WILL BE BUILT IN PARALLEL, NUMBER OF TASKS = 10
NUMBER OF OPTIMAL SORT TASKS = 3, NUMBER OF ACTIVE SORT TASKS = 3
UTILITY DATA BASE SERVICES MEMORY EXECUTION ABENDED, REASON=X'00C9021A'

Thanks,Logaa

Did you run DSN1COPY while the dataset was inuse – or was it from an image copy done with SHRLEVEL CHANGE ?
It seems like the pageset could be in an unstable stage.
I have also seen the 00E40347 when there are memory issues with the utility.

My first thought,

1) Have you done any research on the error codes? If so, did the results help or not?

2) Have you done any searches on www.ibm.com <http://www.ibm.com> for IBMLINK to see what might be there to assist you ?

3) What specifically were you doing with the REBUILD INDEX?
Here it is helpful to post your control cards and error messages

Remember, IBM knows its product the best. You may have come across a software bug (see APAR PK10000 From 2011)

It will be easier for the list to have as much detail as possible to assist with questions or concerns.

Other questions

1) What version of z/OS are you on?

2) What version of DB2 are you running?

3) Is this the first time this the table has had an index rebuild? When was the last successful run?

4) Any changes to the z/OS environment?

Quick question -- dsn1copy ran successfully. See if you can perform "SELECT * FROM ..." the table or one of the tables in the table space. I suspect DSN1COPY wasnt performed right. Target table attributes may have been ALTERed. Your thoughts.

@Lisette,We use DB2 10 , we didn't find any rebuild error till DSN1COPY was run. This image copy 10 months old one. I didn't find such sort message in the output

@logaa,

The absence of indexes on a table such not inhibit your ability to SELECT data from the table
So see if you can perform "SELECT * FROM ..." the table or one of the tables in the table space.

My take is if the table is healthy enough that you can perform a SELECT on it then you should be able rebuild your indexes. Don't attempt to rebuild all at the same time (meaning parallel). Rebuild them one at a time - single thread.
Hope this helps

RE: Abend in Rebuild index

00c9021a leaves the clue. You can read the explanation in the codes manual. The target and source image copy perhaps don't match structurally. Unload and reload instead of attempting to fix after the dsn1copy. Make sure target table and pageset matches the source.
