[DB2 z/OS] - Is there any HDELETE equivalent command to purge a DB2 table's data?

[DB2 z/OS] - Is there any HDELETE equivalent command to purge a DB2 table's data?

Hi guys, our team want to purge some migrated DB2 tables' data without recalling the VSAM files to the DASD. My colleague said that we could make it though dropping tables and then recreating them. But considering the table amount, it's not so efficient for us. I wonder if there's any HDELETE equivalent command for migrated DB2 VSAM files? Thanks a lot in advance.

So long as you do not need to update DB2 Table information when the vsam databases are deleted,

HSM is very capable of deleting any MIGRATED dataset. It just does not notify any owners (like DB2) it did it.

If this is not what you were asking, please provide some clarification.

Thanks

Lizette

DROPping a DB2 object at the tablespace or database level, does in fact indirectly do HDELETE without recalling the VSAM dataset to DASD.
DROPping a table does not do this, the tablespace VSAM would be recalled.

Thanks Lizette! But what we want to achieve is to empty the tables while not triggering any recall action. We still need to keep those tables for further use. So I think directly deleting VSAM files through HSM is not a good choice for us.

Thanks for the reply. I think we will make do with dropping and recreating way.

If it were me, I would HDELETE the datasets and do dummy loads to recreate the VSAM datasets. If you drop the objects, you will have to make sure you also redo all the authorisations (assuming you're not using RACF).

I agree,
Chris has a better plan, given what you have told us about the requirements
