DB2 ERLY Code for new version z/OS

DB2 ERLY Code for new version z/OS
Hi all.

We are running DB2 for z/OS V10. We have performed a ServerPac install for V11.

To avoid an IPL, I know we need to refresh the Early code with the V11 SDSNLINK.

What is the preferred way to update the linklist? Does anyone copy the CURRENT LNKLST and then add the new Linklist Library ATTOP?

That will depend on your shop's policies.

Some do rebuilds,

Some require IPLs

talk to your z/OS System programmers.

I do rebuilds, f LLA, UPDATE=xx.  and other variations.

We only use the refresh Early method in non-production environments. The DB2 system needs to be down for the Early refresh anyway and if we are going to take an outage in Production to do that, it doesn't take much longer to have an IPL.
I create a parmlib member to define the new libraries to APF, copy the current Linklist, add and delete libraries and activate the new Linklist. then I use T PROG=DB (where the member is PROGDB). After the Linklist is updated I issue the refresh Early command and start DB2.I have done this several times with no real problems, although V11 comes up with an error initially because the catalog is still V10.
Here is my example parmlib member PROGDB
APF ADD DSNAME(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SADBLINK)             VOLUME(IBM902)APF ADD DSNAME(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNEXIT)             VOLUME(IBM902)APF ADD DSNAME(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNLINK)             VOLUME(IBM902)APF ADD DSNAME(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNLOAD)             VOLUME(IBM902)APF ADD DSNAME(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNLOD2)             VOLUME(IBM902)APF ADD DSNAME(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDXRRESL)             VOLUME(IBM902)APF ADD DSNAME(DB2T.V11R1M0.RUNLIB.LOAD)               SMS           APF ADD DSNAME(DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNEXIT)                  SMS           LNKLST DEFINE NAME(LNKLSTDB) COPYFROM(CURRENT)                       LNKLST ADD NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNLINK)                                    AFTER(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDSNLINK)            LNKLST ADD NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDXRRESL)                                    AFTER(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDXRRESL)            LNKLST ADD NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNEXIT)                                    AFTER(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDSNEXIT)            LNKLST ADD NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V11R1M0.SDSNLOAD)                                    AFTER(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDSNLOAD)            LNKLST DELETE NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDSNLINK)         LNKLST DELETE NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDXRRESL)         LNKLST DELETE NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDSNEXIT)         LNKLST DELETE NAME(LNKLSTDB) DSN(SYS1.DB2T.V10R1M4.SDSNLOAD)         LNKLST ACTIVATE NAME(LNKLSTDB)     Regards, Tony
