DB2 v12 Install question

DB2 v12 Install question
To list;
AS I have bee away from Db2 for a time I have a real basic(i hope) question. I started up DB2 for the first time. The xxxADMT roc did not come up which I sort of expected. What I did not expect was a RACF error:
  ICH408I JOB(DBCRADMT) STEP(DBCRADMT)  CL(PROCESS)
                OMVS SEGMENT NOT DEFINED
On the IEF695I message the jobname was assigned to user ++++++++
Now, I have not run the job DSNTIJRT. Will this job cover this particular error?
Thank you in advance,  Bill J.

For this error

ICH408I JOB(DBCRADMT) STEP(DBCRADMT) CL(PROCESS)

OMVS SEGMENT NOT DEFINED

Check with your Security Admins to see if they have the new BPX NEXT USER set up. It will depend on your level of z/OS. But it is make it easier for tasks needing OMVS Functions to get them.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Lizette Koehler)
Hi Lizette,
OK, I added my userid to that BPX.NEXT.USER but I am still having an issue with the DB2 admin task. I still get that error. In looking at the output, it is picking up DFLTUID as the userid.

On the initial message IEF695I it is assigned to user ++++++++

Bill, do you actually need the xxxADMT stc? We never use it so in the zparm, i.e in the DSNTIJUZ job we have nothing specified if I remember correctly.

Okay,

So I recommend going to this site and review Robert’s presentations. He does a great job on showing what needs to be done and how.

You want to search for BPX USER on the page and find all entries related to the BPX. Probably more than just setting the one facility entry.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Michael Arlebrandt)
Hi Michael,
Well, our other version of DB2 are running with the ADMT proc as well so I need to keep things the same as they are, if you know what I mean. I get this error message when I issue the -ssss START DB2 command. It then tries to start the admin proc and that is when it posts the error. DB2 still comes up without it. I would expect the admin proc not to be available until I run DNSTIJRT but this RACF error was quite uinexpected.

Ok, then follow Lizettes advice. DSNTIJRT will not fix the Racf issue but it will create all routines and bind all packages needed by the admit proc :)

Seems like you want the DBCRADMT STC to assigned the same UID as the other DB2 STCs. i.e. DBCRMSTR, DBCRIRLM, DBCRDBM1. Of course that UID will need to have an OMVS segment.

Hi Michael,
Well, our other version of DB2 are running with the ADMT proc as well so I need to keep things the same as they are, if you know what I mean. I get this error message when I issue the -ssss START DB2 command. It then tries to start the admin proc and that is when it posts the error. DB2 still comes up without it. I would expect the admin proc not to be available until I run DNSTIJRT but this RACF error was quite uinexpected.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to David Baldon)
Well that is the rub, the proc says to use DFLTUID which is supposed to be IBMUSER but for some reason it is picking up my userid which is defined as a DB2 administrator. As I understand it, the defaultid and startedis are supposed to be different. I am attempting to find out what I have specified incorrectly.
In our other versions of DB2 when the admin task comes up, it uses IBMUSER.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to David Baldon)
Additional info on this. In looking at the log for the DB2 master proc, it is not picking up a userid. Other versions of DB2 which we have running are picking up IBMUSER which I would expect v12 of DB2 to pick up as well.Obviously something is missing here.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Bill Janulin)
Did you check the Started Task table for RACF?

It may have the USERID coded there

Additional info on this. In looking at the log for the DB2 master proc, it is not picking up a userid. Other versions of DB2 which we have running are picking up IBMUSER which I would expect v12 of DB2 to pick up as well.

Obviously something is missing here.

Hi Lizette,

OK, I added my userid to that BPX.NEXT.USER but I am still having an issue with the DB2 admin task. I still get that error. In looking at the output, it is picking up DFLTUID as the userid.

On the initial message IEF695I it is assigned to user ++++++++

Check with your Security Admins to see if they have the new BPX NEXT USER set up. It will depend on your level of z/OS. But it is make it easier for tasks needing OMVS Functions to get them.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Lizette Koehler)
Hi Lizette,
Yes, I am going through that now and see where I have to add a started task profile for the new DB2 STCs. I am trying to do it through the panels but it does not give me the option to add STDATA where the IBMUSER is indicated as it is with the other STARTED classes. So, I believe I have indentified the source of the problem.
Thank to you and everyone else for their time and responses.
Regards, Bill J.

Subject: [DB2-L] - RE: DB2 v12 Install question

Regards,
Bill J.

Seems like you want the DBCRADMT STC to assigned the same UID as the other DB2 STCs. i.e. DBCRMSTR, DBCRIRLM, DBCRDBM1. Of course that UID will need to have an OMVS segment.

Subject: [DB2-L] - DB2 v12 Install question

To list;

Thank you in advance,
Bill J.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Lizette Koehler)

Thanks for your help, I was able to bring up DB2 without the RACF errors. Now, the installation doc inplies that job DSNTIJRT hsould be run. When I tried to run it, I got errors  that DSNTBCM resource was unavailable.
Should I be running other install steps before I run this job? The next step is to tailor the DB2 catalog?
Thank you in advance, Bill J.

Subject: [DB2-L] - RE: DB2 v12 Install question  Hi Lizette,    Yes, I am going through that now and see where I have to add a started task profile for the new DB2 STCs. I am trying to do it through the panels but it does not give me the option to add STDATA where the IBMUSER is indicated as it is with the other STARTED classes. So, I believe I have indentified the source of the problem.  Thank to you and everyone else for their time and responses.  Regards, Bill J.  On Friday, May 19, 2017 4:43 PM, Lizette Koehler <[login to unmask email]> wrote:  Did you check the Started Task table for RACF?

Subject: [DB2-L] - RE: DB2 v12 Install question Additional info on this. In looking at the log for the DB2 master proc, it is not picking up a userid. Other versions of DB2 which we have running are picking up IBMUSER which I would expect v12 of DB2 to pick up as well.Obviously something is missing here. Bill J. On Friday, May 19, 2017 2:57 PM, "Baldon, David" <[login to unmask email]> wrote: Seems like you want the DBCRADMT STC to assigned the same UID as the other DB2 STCs. i.e. DBCRMSTR, DBCRIRLM, DBCRDBM1. DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Bill Janulin)
Please disregard my previous message. I made a wrong assumption about when DSNTIJRT should be run.
I went ahead and attempted to run DSNTIJTC to tailor the DB2 catalog.
Now I get a DSNU3333i message that the DB2 Utilities suite for zOS was not enabled. That's interesting because
nowhere, that I can tell, that this utilities suite is a requirement for running DB2 and tailoring the catalog. Can someone provide some clarification on this?
Regards, Bill J.

To list;

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Bill Janulin)
Hi Bill,

Haven't installed v12 myself yet but there is some registration of utilities needed.

Regards,
Bill J.

Thank you in advance,
Bill J.

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Michael Arlebrandt)
Yes, I am finding that out. Here is an excerpt from the DB2 for zOS program directory:
Some of the basic operation of a DBMS is provided by utility functions, such as backup, recovery,
reorganization, loading and unloading data, gathering statistics and checking data, indexes, and large
objects. Customers should ensure that these functions are provided either by ordering DB2 Utilities
Suite for z/OS, V12 or by obtaining equivalent function elsewhere.
It does not really say that it is a REQUIREMENT but it sure looks like it is.
Nothing is ever easy with IBM.

Now I get a DSNU3333i message that the DB2 Utilities suite for zOS was not enabled. That's interesting because
nowhere, that I can tell, that this utilities suite is a requirement for running DB2 and tailoring the catalog. Can someone provide some clarification on this?

Should I be running other install steps before I run this job? The next step is to tailor the DB2 catalog?
Thank you in advance, Bill J.

All DB2 utilities operate on catalog, directory, and sample objects, without requiring
purchase of the DB2 Utilities Suite for z/OS."

If this is preventing your run of DSNTIJTC, then raise a PMR. If it is merely telling you, then
it is of informational use only.

As Michael's link will tell you, in the DB2 12, you need to update SYS1.PARMLIB if you
have the suite. (change from V11 and earlier).

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to James Campbell)
The CATMAINT program DSNTIJTC is issuing s RC8 telling me that the suite is not enabled. I cannot raise a PMR with defect support because they tell me that this is a 'usage' question. We do not have a 'usage support' contract so I am stuck. What really gets me is why didn't they just include the utilities into the base product? Now I have to do another install of another productso I can continue with the installation of the base product.......ridiculous!!!

Try following Williams enablement link
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPEK_12.0.0/ugref/src/tpc/db2z_enableut
ilitysuite.html
and updating PARMLIB.

It is possible to read the wording to mean you have to do it.

Hi,

The DB2 utilities must be registered as mentioned elsewhere in this thread. I made a new install of DB2 12 a year ago and did the enabling/registration as described in Section 6.2 of the DB2 Utilities Suite Program Directory

http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/i1346320.pdf

Yes, Jorn, but you had to do a separate installation of the DB2 utilities suite IN ADDITION TO the DB2 base product. My point here is why not include the utilities in the DB2 base product if it is a requirement now.

Some functions in the utilities can be used without charge with DB2 for z/OS (see https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEPEK_12.0.0/ugref/src/tpc/db2z_utlpackaging.html) but some require a license which not all customers have, so that is probably why it is packaged the way it is.

Next time you attend IDUG NA you should ask the IBM'ers why it is packaged in a confusing way :)

FWIW, a lot of IBM and ISV products require installing several FMIDs, so it is not that unusual.

However, the registration in IFAPRDxx is new with DB2 12, and for that reason it is normally mentioned in the DB2 12 migration best practices presentations by IBM.

Best regards,

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Jørn Thyssen)
It’s largely (or partly) historical

For some time (around DB2 V7 or so) whether or not you used the IBM utilities was OPTIONAL – you could choose to use the CA ones instead

Also, the DB2 utilities are separately purchased – they are NOT part of the base product

Hence the separate install

DB2 v12 Install question
(in response to Phil Grainger)
Quick search of the v12 Knowledge Center says:

DB2 utilities packaging
Several utilities are included with DB2® at no extra charge. Other utilities are available as a separate product.
The following utilities are core utilities, which are included (at no extra charge) with DB2 12 for z/OS®:
· CATMAINT
· DIAGNOSE
· LISTDEF
· OPTIONS
· QUIESCE
· REPAIR
· REPORT
· TEMPLATE
· All DSN stand-alone utilities

All other utilities are available as a separate product called the DB2 Utilities Suite for z/OS (FMID HDBCC1K).

So, what utility is actually issuing the DSNU333I message that the OP is receiving ?
If it’s CATMAINT, that sounds like an IBM support issue.
