Maybe I missed it, but when did IDUG decide to place advertising at the bottom of db1-l posts?

Recently, every message ends with - which I ASSUME IDUG are being paid for??

We started using the DB2-L footer messages to advertise the conferences years ago. Earlier this year a vendor found an old page that listed advertisements that could be purchased from IDUG. IDUG headquarters sold banners and the DB2-L footers to ESAi.

One last question (this has piqued interest) - how many subscribers do we have on db2-l these days?

In the "oldern days" we used to get a post confirmation message that said how may people a message was sent to, but haven't seen one of those in a LONNNGGGGGG time

Cheers

Thanks!

Any chance you could share the information on how to purchase "advertising footers"?

I had a quick look at idug.org, but can't see where that might be hidden

You could do a SELECT DISTINCT over the names that have posted in the last year or so... a little bit of cut-and-paste... :)
Then add a wild number for all the lurkers
Then reduce by a random number for the retired people who still like to keep up with Db2/DB2
Then reduce by another random number for the people who subscribed by accident and cannot fathom out how to unsubscribe...

For some reason it appears to be a logical Friday at the moment!

One last question (this has piqued interest) - how many subscribers do we have on db2-l these days?

In the "oldern days" we used to get a post confirmation message that said how may people a message was sent to, but haven't seen one of those in a LONNNGGGGGG time

Cheers

Who will see the advertisement?  Only the people who get the immediate email, or will the ad appear in the Archives?

I use the archives to read and respond to the posts, as do many others.  In fact, you don't have to be signed in to view the archives.  So there could be many more non IDUG members who see posts (either lurkers or people doing a google search and click on a link to DB2-L).

It looks as though they will get in the archives. At least for some of the messages.

Re: Advertising on db2-l
(in response to Phil Grainger)

Phil,

That number is still mentioned when posting through the DB2-L web interface (http://www.idug.org/p/fo/si/topic=19).
Currently it says "1382 users will receive an email when this reply is released".

Seems like that's slightly less than the total number of 1526 subscribers mentioned by Dan; but substantially larger than the 747 "get immediate"...

Looking at the idug.org website, I don’t see the advertising text in messages stored there – so only immediate recipients see them (if they look)
