IBM Data Server Driver 11.1 License File sam41.lic
Hello,

We've upgraded from DS Driver 10.5 to 11.1 and it appears that the license file now required is sam41.lic. It is working with that license, but I'm trying to confirm that this is the correct file so that we don't have any issues down the road (such as having a time limit). Can't seem to find much documentation on it. Everything was downloaded from the IBM Passport Advantage site. This is a Windows server connecting to DB2 on z/OS.

Thanks,
Jay

IBM Data Server Driver 11.1 License File sam41.lic
(in response to Nadir Doctor)
Hi Nadir,

Yes, it appears that this license file is being used for multiple products. It’s in both the DB2 Connect and DB2 ESE activation downloads, and I’ve seen it mentioned in regard to Tivoli as well. Haven’t found a DS Driver specific activation download.

Here’s some of what’s in the file…

ProductName=System Automation for MP (Base) - This must be what SAM stands for and I do find some Tivoli/DB2 doc on it.
ProductVersion=4.1.0.0
LicenseEndDate=12/31/2037 - Based on this I’m gathering we’re good until 2037.

Thanks,
Jay

IBM Data Server Driver 11.1 License File sam41.lic
(in response to Jay Reavill)
Folks,

sam41.lic is the activation file for TSA/MP. This is used for cluster
automation for both HADR and pureScale. It should not be needed on a DB2
client of any kind.

It isn't the license file you need for DB2 Connect. What you need for
this depends on what type of application you have.

For Java apps it will be a JAR file db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar

For native apps (using DB2 CLI APIs) there is a .lic file.

The full list of possible license files for all DB2 products (clients and
servers) can be found here -

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSEPGG_11.1.0/com.ibm.db2.luw.qb.server.doc/doc/r0006748.html

IBM Data Server Driver 11.1 License File sam41.lic
(in response to Philip Nelson)
Hi Phil,

I don’t see Data Server Driver in that list. For years now, the license file we’ve used with Data Server Driver 10.1 (correct or not) is db2consv.lic (no _*) that came with DB2 Connect Server 10.1. Interesting that I can’t find db2consv.lic listed in either the DB2 10.1 or 11.1 list of drivers sites.

When I look at the files this is the product information…

db2consv.lic:
ProductName=DB2 Connect Server
ProductID=1411
ProductVersion=10.1

db2consv_zs.lic:
ProductName=DB2 Connect Unlim Ed zSeries
ProductID=1411
ProductVersion=11.1

Product ids are the same. Wonder if renaming the _zs file to no _zs would work? Wonder why the sam41.lic works?

What license file is Data Server Driver supposed to have? I was always under the impression is was the DB2 Connect license.

Thanks,
Jay

IBM Data Server Driver 11.1 License File sam41.lic
(in response to Jay Reavill)
Jay,

DS Driver is (one flavour of) the "DB2 Client", which can be used against
any database in the DB2 family. So there isn't a license file for this.

Which file you need will depend on which version of DB2 Connect you have
purchased - one of the ones below -

If you have DB2 Connect Unlimited you can also apply a license at the DB2
for z/OS end, which will save you having to deploy any license at the
client side. Inside the activation kit for this product you'll find a
Java application to apply this license (try asking your typical DB2 for
z/OS sysprog to run a Java app - it isn't a 3270 terminal - not sure why
they don't ship an SMPE package for this.

db2consv_as.lic DB2 Connect™ Application Server Edition (CPU option)
db2consv_ass.lic DB2 Connect Application Server Advanced Edition (CPU
option)
db2consv_azs.lic DB2 Connect Unlimited Advanced Edition for System z® (CPU
option)
db2consv_ee.lic DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition (User option)
db2consv_is.lic DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for System i® (Managed
Processor)
db2consv_zs.lic DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for System z
db2connect_o.lic DB2 Restricted Connect Edition (Restricted)

IBM Data Server Driver 11.1 License File sam41.lic
(in response to Philip Nelson)
FYI update… We just ran a test on a clean install of DS Driver 11.1 and it failed to connect using the 11.1 db2consv_zs.lic file. No other license files were involved. We then renamed db2consv_zs.lic to db2consv.lic and it worked like a charm. Just like it has for years with 10.1.

Odd that it worked on the other instance with the sam41.lic file as well. I don’t know that it matters which is used, but I feel more comfortable using the db2consv.lic since that’s what we’ve been using all along.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay,

DS Driver is (one flavour of) the "DB2 Client", which can be used against any database in the DB2 family. So there isn't a license file for this.

Which file you need will depend on which version of DB2 Connect you have purchased - one of the ones below -

If you have DB2 Connect Unlimited you can also apply a license at the DB2 for z/OS end, which will save you having to deploy any license at the client side. Inside the activation kit for this product you'll find a Java application to apply this license (try asking your typical DB2 for z/OS sysprog to run a Java app - it isn't a 3270 terminal - not sure why they don't ship an SMPE package for this.

db2consv_as.lic

DB2 Connect™ Application Server Edition (CPU option)

db2consv_ass.lic

DB2 Connect Application Server Advanced Edition (CPU option)

db2consv_azs.lic

DB2 Connect Unlimited Advanced Edition for System z® (CPU option)

db2consv_ee.lic

DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition (User option)

db2consv_is.lic

DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for System i® (Managed Processor)

db2consv_zs.lic

DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for System z

db2connect_o.lic

DB2 Restricted Connect Edition (Restricted)

ProductName=DB2 Connect Server
ProductID=1411
ProductVersion=10.1

db2consv_zs.lic:
ProductName=DB2 Connect Unlim Ed zSeries
ProductID=1411
ProductVersion=11.1

Product ids are the same. Wonder if renaming the _zs file to no _zs would work? Wonder why the sam41.lic works?

What license file is Data Server Driver supposed to have? I was always under the impression is was the DB2 Connect license.

Thanks,
Jay

Folks,

sam41.lic is the activation file for TSA/MP. This is used for cluster automation for both HADR and pureScale. It should not be needed on a DB2 client of any kind.

It isn't the license file you need for DB2 Connect. What you need for this depends on what type of application you have.

For Java apps it will be a JAR file db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar

For native apps (using DB2 CLI APIs) there is a .lic file.

The full list of possible license files for all DB2 products (clients and servers) can be found here -

ProductVersion=4.1.0.0
LicenseEndDate=12/31/2037 - Based on this I’m gathering we’re good until 2037.

Thanks,
Jay

Hi Jay,

I believe the sam41.lic file is for the tivoli systems automation software - it is plain text and you should be able to read content for confirmation.
