Index in CHKP

Index in CHKP

Hi,

I did Tablespace and Index recovery TOCOPY using SHARELEVEL REFERENCE image copies.

Both, Tablespace and Index are in same list.

After the recovery is done, noticed that Index is in CHKP.

As per IBM resource center, Index can be in CHKP if

1. you did not recover the table space in the same list.

2. you specified the table space and the index, but the recovery point in time was not a point of consistency

But, none of the above is applicable in this case.

So, any ideas why the Index is in CHKP after Index recovery?

Bharath,

If you recover TOCOPY then you are not recovering TORBA or TOLOGPOINT, and your recovery is by definition _not_ to a point of consistency. DB2 will always set CHKP on an index in this recovery scenario.

I used SHARELEVEL REFERENCE image copies for recovery TOCOPY.

I guess that should be consistent.

I tried TOLOGPOINT with both reference and change image copies.

In both cases, Index end up in CHKP.

You should Rebuild the index. Index recovery is not applicable at this time following a TOCOPY.
The TOCOPY rendered your tablespace to be in an inconsistent state with its indexes. Only an index rebuild can help.

Hope this helps

Bharath,

Our Agency does not implement sysplex data sharing, so TOLOGPOINT isn’t one of my options. We COPY TABLESPACE with SHRLEVEL REFERENCE during our production cycles. At the recovery site, we RECOVER TABLESPACE TORBA('nnnnn'), then RECOVER INDEX TORBA('nnnnn'), to the same RBA.

We have not experienced any cases of indexes remaining in CHKP under our recovery strategy, so I can’t offer anything else useful on this. If you’re doing this and still getting CHKP on your index (You did REPAIR before running the RECOVER TOLOGPOINT, right?), I recommend opening a problem ticket with IBM. It’s definitely not supposed to work like that.
