Why and how to avoid release migration autobinds

Hello,

My colleague Paul McWilliams and I wrote an important blog post about how and why to avoid autobinds for release migration.  This was prompted by a few customers having to fallback after release migration autobinds cannot complete due to contention and sometimes security configuration issues.

This is one post I hope anyone involved in a release migration will read.

(in response to Patrick Bossman)

I almost want to re-title this post to "How to reduce the probability your migration fails".

There has been very light reading of this autobind post.  But when I've talked about this at conferences and discussed this with experienced systems programmers - most have indicated there was information they hadn't realized.  Many realized they had (unknowingly) taken unnecessary risks in prior migrations.

Basically, if you are involved with Db2 z migrations please read it and/or pass on to your systems programmers that are responsible for migrations.

Thank you,
