SPACE in SYSIBM.SYSSTOGROUP

Hi,

I got into a slight confusion. Can someone please clarify whether these two are related?

  1. Using the below query, I got the space as 244441120 kilobytes

SELECT SPACE FROM SYSIBM.SYSSTOGROUP WHERE NAME='LAGTD000'

  1. Using this query, I got the space as 2616082373 kilobytes

SELECT SUM(SPACEF) FROM SYSIBM.SYSTABLEPART WHERE STORNAME='LAGTD000'

Space allocated to the Stogroup is less than the space allocated to the Tables in that Stogroup.

I guess that the two represent different things and cannot be related the way I'm thinking.

But, want to make sure I understood correct here.

Thanks

Kirk Hampton

Hi Bharath,
I’m assuming this is on z/OS, right ?
Are you running DFHSM, with the DB2 datasets eligible for migration, if they are unopened for some period ?
If so, then yes, the STOGROUP space number can be lower than the SPACEF from SYSTABLEPART,
because the STOGROUP will report only that which is physically present on disk, and not any which are migrated to tape.
Also, there can be a difference in the times when the STOGROUP space is updated by the STOSPACE utility,
and when the SPACEF is updated by the RUNSTATS utility. How far apart are the TIMESTAMPS in those two tables ?
Hope this helps,
