Specifying A Data Class

Specifying A Data Class
Is there a ZPARM value that I can use to specify an SMS data class. We want
to be able to send our archive data set's to 3590's. Thanks...

Mike,

From my zparm guideline doc:
|--------------------+-------------+-------------+-------------+-------------|
| SMS data class for | SMSDCFL | * system | * system | * system |
| tablespaces | | specific * | specific * | specific * |
|--------------------+-------------+-------------+-------------+-------------|
| SMS data class for| SMSDCIX | * system | * system | * system |
| indexspaces | | specific * | specific * | specific * |
|--------------------+-------------+-------------+-------------+-------------|

Thanks.

Mike,
DB2 allows specifying the DATACLAS for tablespaces and indexes, but not for
logs. However, I think the best way to do this would be to have the SMS
admin add code to the DATACLAS ACS routine for this. Since the dataset name
is a constant, this should be straight-forward.

I think the value you want is on the DSN6ARVP macro, UNIT and UNIT2. Set these
to your 3590 esoteric name (see your MVS sys prog). This may be something like
3590, or C3590.

Alternatively, you could have your SMS administrator to define an ACS rule to
force the dataset to 3590.

Michael

If you're on V6 then PQ32414 adds new ZPARM parms SPRMDCFL and SPRMDCIX
which allow SMS data classes to be specified for tablespaces and indexes. I
don't think there's anything for archive log datasets though.

Cheers
Moira
