The automation of reorgs is good, but is best done using a
from an established vendor. This allows the DBA to concentrate on
management, and not on fixing application code. Most vendor
drive the reorganisation process harder than code you can develop,
provide you with an updated product to support a new DB2
Also, most vendors supply products that allow you to automate
recovery, and some tackle service management SLA-type issues.
The key for deciding to use a vendor product is if the money saved
the product is greater than its cost. For a reorg, this means
the cost of doing a reorganisation (outage & CPU time) compared
to the cost
of not doing it (poor performance). If this can be established,
should also work out which company can maximise your savings.
The main vendors for such products are BMC, CA, and IBM. If you
