| Who are the administrators of the DB2 Listserve and how do I contact them? |
For complete information on the DB2-L owners, please visit IDUG Listserv Volunteers. They can be reached at db2-l-request@www.idugdb2-l.org. Please understand that the list admins have volunteered their time to keep DB-L running. They are not paid for their time, and maintaining DB2-L is secondary to their everyday full time jobs. They will always try to respond as quickly as possible.
| |
| What are the reasons that I would need to contact the list admins? |
You can contact the list admins if you have any questions about the list, if you are having problems subscribing, unsubscribing, or changing your settings. The list admins can be reached at db2-l-request@www.idugdb2-l.org. We will make an effort to reply as soon as possible, but please be aware that the list owners do not work 24 hours a day. The list admins are volunteers, and do not get paid for their efforts to keep DB2-L running. Please make an effort to follow the FAQs to change your own settings, etc., instead of automatically contacting the list admins, but we understand that some issues can only be resolved by the list admins. Also, please note that if you are contacting the list admins because you think the list is down (which can happen occasionally due to server problems, etc.), if the list is in fact down, the list owners will not receive any email sent to the list owner address either, until the list is back up again.

| How do I register on the web interface and why would I need to do this? |
Go to this link: Listserve Archives DB2-L, don't enter anything on this page, click on 'Get a new LISTSERV password'. On the next page, enter your email address and password (twice). You will receive a confirmation email to complete the password process (this will verify your email and ensure that no one else is registering with your email). If you do not receive the confirmation email within 24 hours, please contact the list owners. We have seen the password confirmations detected as SPAM by some companies email servers, we will see these returned to us. Your password will be saved as a cookie, so you will not need to login all the time.
| |
| I forgot my password for the web interface, how do I find it? |
You need to follow the directions above and register on the web interface (follow 'get a new LISTSERV password') just like it was the first time. There is no way for the list admins to look up existing passwords.

| What topics can be discussed on DB2-L? |
Any topics related to DB2 on any platform. Do not send commands (such as UNSUBSCRIBE, etc.) to the posting address, or questions that should go to the list owner. Please post only plain text. Do not post HTML, MIME, Word documents, digital signatures, etc. Please do not post messages criticizing other subscribers for making off topic or inappropriate posts. If you feel take a posting was inappropriate, please make your feelings known, in private, to the list admins. The decorum of DB2-L is professionalism. Do not post profanity, vulgarity or rudeness or messages belittling other subscribers. If you feel that a post contains incorrect information, we encourage you to post a correction, but we ask that it be done in a professional manner. Do not post a message indicating a question is "stupid" or that the question should not have been posted because the answer is easily found elsewhere. No FLAMING is allowed.
| |
| I received a 'rejected posting' message from the listserv, what does this mean? |
There are a few reasons why a posting can be rejected, and the message should indicate the reason. If your posting was rejected because you are not subscribed to the list, either you need to subscribe (see FAQ for subscribing), or your email address has changed since you subscribed. Contact the list owners to update your email address on DB2-L. A posting can be rejected if it exceeds 250 lines – either shorten your posting, or split it up as part 1 and part 2 and send two (or more if needed) postings.
| |
| I haven't received emails from DB2-L in a couple of days, what happened? |
The list owners often have to change subscribers account settings. Specifically they may change your account so that you no longer receive mail from the DB2-L list. This is done because your e-mail service has been sending error messages to the list owners indicating that it can no longer accept mail for you. This often happens if you exceed a mailbox size quota, if your email domain has changed, or if your email server is having problems and is rejecting messages from DB2-L. First, check your subscription settings via the web interface, and then contact the list owners if necessary.
Posting to DB2-L is a privilege, not a right. Although it very rarely happens, the Chief List Admin can revoke your posting privileges and forbid you from posting to the list.
In addition, the listserv software or server it runs on can have occasional problems, which will cause a DB2-L outage. You can be assured that the list admins are already aware of the problem, so sending test posts to DB2-L or 'Is the list down?' posts will cause more of an annoyance when the list is back up and these messages get distributed. Just be patient, and the list will be back up and running. Also, if the list is down, emails sent to the list admin address will not reach them either, until the list is back up.

| Can I post a job opening or post my resume if I am looking for work? |
If you are a recruiter or work directly for a company trying to fill a position, feel free to post a job opening. Make sure you include the location for the open position (city, country, etc.) and your contact information so any interested parties can contact you directly. If you are looking for work, please do not post your resume, but you can post a short description of the type of work you are looking, the location, and your contact information.
| |
| I work for a vendor; can I post a product announcement, or seminar information? |
Product announcements by vendors are allowed on DB2-L, as long as it only includes technical information, not marketing information or opinions, such as 'This is the best product on the market…', or 'Our product is better than vendor xyz…', etc. Include either a web link or contact information to get additional information about the product. Postings about seminars or other types of vendor sponsored events are also allowed, please include the geographical location in the subject and a web link or contact information.
| |
| What about off-topic posts? |
Please refrain from off-topic posts, but occasionally a discussion that starts off with a DB2-related subject will turn info an off-topic posts. If the thread gets out of control, the list owners will step in and request that the off-topic replies stop.
| |
| Can I send an attachment to DB2-L? |
It has been our policy that attachments not are posted to the list. In the past, we have had some posted, some with no problems and others causing problems like overloading the server, resulting in a disruption of service. Our biggest problem with them has been that they contain Viruses and are then forwarded to every subscriber on the list causing many problems. The listserv software filters attachments; therefore attachments will not be allowed to go through and will be stripped off. Additionally, very long messages that exceed 250 lines will not be allowed.
