November President's Letter

This past weekend as we set the clocks back for daylight savings, we shifted how light will move through our days. Suddenly night is setting in much earlier and winter feels like it’s right around the corner, if it’s not already here. Although this shift can be a bit hard on the psyche, I think it provides an opportunity to clarify our priorities. With less daylight, we must identify what’s most important to us. Plus, the darkness can inspire us to find the ways we can bring more light into our lives and the lives of those around us.

Here at IDUG, we are always focused on the question of how we can best be a source of light for the global Db2 community. Though this year we had to shift all of our events from in-person to virtual, it encouraged us to drill down and identify what matters most to us as an organization. We were able to clarify priorities and create a plan of how to put this new understanding into action.

On that note, we’re excited to announce the launch of our new website. When you visit idug.org, you’ll find yourself on a new platform (though your login info will remain the same). We took on this project to give our members more ways to connect with the global Db2 community as well as other professionals in their area. We also wanted to make it easier for you to access the resources and technical content you need. Please take some time to look around the new site. I recommend browsing the forums and communities as a good place to start. We have new communities centered on specific interest areas such as Db2 for z/OS, Db2 (LUW), and more. Join one and start posting today. Also, take a minute to review your personal profile and update your info if anything has changed. Be sure to check out our FAQs page if you have any questions.

In addition to the new website, we’re looking forward to our upcoming events.

IDUG EMEA 2020 Virtual Event | November 16–19

We’re less than two weeks away from the conference kickoff. Now is a great time to look through the agenda and start to think about which sessions you would like to add to your schedule. These four days will include a ton of technical sessions, incredible keynotes, and chances to connect with our vendor partners.

The Latin America Virtual Db2 Tech Seminars | December 8–10

The seminar for Brazil will take place December 8 and 9 and Mexico City’s will be on December 10. Registration is open now and the agendas have just been released.

As we look toward 2021, we’re excited to host a virtual event in Australia in March and the North America Virtual 2021 Conference in the summer. We’ll have more information about these events out soon.

As always, please feel free to drop me a line with any questions or suggestions. I can be reached at Bob.Vargo@idug.org.
