Wow, how the weather has changed in just a short 24 hours. We had been enjoying decent spring-like weather, sunny, highs in the 60s, the trees starting to bud, the grass turning a vibrant green, and it had been just awesome! We had been enjoying getting outdoors more, cycling, walking, and appreciating the change. However, within just 24 hours, we woke up to a blustery, snowy, cold April 1st day. Was this an April Fools’ joke? We hoped so! We are so ready for change! This is not what we expected nor the direction we were heading.
IDUG is also hopeful for change. We are hoping to get business back to normal. We are hoping to be able to meet and nurture our relationships and networks again, in person. We are hopeful IDUG can bring back in-person events later this year, however, things have not changed quite enough yet. So, we will continue down our current path of virtual events, web meetings, and wait for the change to happen. It has been challenging but with change, comes opportunity as well. We need to appreciate everything that has provided us opportunities this year to learn and grow. Change forced us to learn and develop new skills, technically and personally. Without change, this may not have happened. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come out of this change, albeit not the best situation for any of us. For now, we will embrace the moments we have and appreciate all that we have learned this past year and use those skills to bring world-class speakers and sponsors to our IDUG community.
IDUG Australasia Virtual Conference
I’d like to thank and congratulate all the IDUG volunteers and all the sponsors who helped make the Australasian Virtual Conference a success. This event has been scheduled in September for many years, but we are planning to change the schedule and move the event (hopefully onsite!) to late first quarter or early second quarter 2022.
IDUG North America Conference | June 7-11 and June 14-16, 2021
The North America Conference will be a virtual event this year. The first week will consist of technical sessions, SIGs, VSPs, and Keynotes, and the second week will feature Educational Seminars, Workshops, and Hands-On Labs. Registration is now open!
Your time and expertise are welcome and needed. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to us at our volunteer page for more information on what opportunities are available.
We have a lot going on in 2021 and your help will allow us to continue IDUG’s community and education opportunities. Please feel free to drop me a line with any questions or suggestions. I can be reached at Bob.Vargo@idug.org.
