January 1 not only marked the beginning of a new year, it also marked the beginning of a new decade. Often this season is filled with a flurry of activity as everyone starts to play catch-up from the barrage of emails and voicemails; this year is particularly busy as many are kicking off their 2020 initiatives. I hope that each of you had the time to re-connect and re-charge over the holiday break and you’re prepared to tackle what the new year has in store for us. I know many of us start the new year with a set of resolutions or intentions. Over the years, my personal experience has been that the resolutions which stand the test of time are the ones that have a long-term focus and are not myopic. IDUG as an organization continues to focus on resolutions that have a long-term view. The financial plans that we are making today will help propel us through the next decade.
While the past few weeks have been a quiet time for the majority of us, IDUG volunteers have been busy planning the next set of events. The planning for the IDUG events in India is in full swing. The websites for the IDUG India events in Chennai and Bengaluru are up and running. These two events offer the opportunity for attendees to connect with some of the leading Db2 experts in the industry and engage in discussions on Db2 trends and directions. If you are planning to be in Chennai or Bengaluru, or have an extended team in one of those two cities, please encourage your team to register and take advantage of the early bird pricing. IDUG is continuing to enhance its partnership with other user groups. Like the Mexico City event held last year, IIUG will be collocating its events in Bengaluru and Chennai.
The IDUG conference planning committee is working on one-day technical events in São Paulo and Mexico City during the summer. The dates are still being finalized. If you are from the Mexico City or São Paulo area, and would like to volunteer, please do not hesitate to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
One piece of feedback that we have received from the IDUG community is that we need to upgrade our website and enhance our mobile app and mobile presence. The IDUG web committee is in the planning phase of upgrading the current website and moving to a new SEO-friendly platform. One of our goals is to have a platform that will provide regional user groups the ability to host their websites as microsites under idug.org, which will create a more connected community. The IDUG web committee is currently working on the details, and I will provide additional updates as they are finalized.
The website for the IDUG EMEA conference in Edinburgh in 2020 is already up and running. The conference planning committee is looking for submissions from seasoned speakers, newbies, and folks who have never presented before. Please take the time to submit your abstracts today.
As mentioned in my previous newsletter, IDUG will be spending a considerable amount of the 2020 budget on expanding IDUG offerings and improving its outreach. IDUG leadership is currently in the strategic planning phase of rejuvenating the regional user groups and exploring modern ways to connect with the Db2 community. If you are interested in being a part of the regional user group committee, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Finally, I would be remiss, if I did not plug other events that help promote Db2. The Db2 Night Show and the Data View have a few top-notch IDUG speakers in their January agenda. Take a moment to check them out.
Please feel free to drop me a line with any questions or suggestions. Until next time, I encourage you to go through idug.org and check out the valuable content. As always, I can be reached at email@example.com
