Change of Seasons

It is the end of September—and change is in the air. September 23 marked the first day of fall. The hustle and bustle of summer is slowly but surely coming to an end. For me, the change of seasons is a time to take stock of all the accomplishments and start planning for winter and the year ahead. Whether you are a DBA working on implementing new features of Db2, a manager planning for an upgrade to the newest version of Db2, or a newbie with questions about using Db2, IDUG is the place to go. IDUG Db2-L (listserv) offers the ability to network with thousands of Db2 professionals all over the world by asking and answering questions and participating in lively discussions. I hope you take the time during the slow period to engage with your virtual IDUG community.
Summer is usually one of the busiest seasons for the IDUG volunteers helping with the planning of multiple conferences. The IDUG Data Tech Summit (Db2 LUW) was held in Toronto, Canada September 23–24 and was very successful. Attendees were able to network with developers and managers from the Toronto Lab and learn about the cool new features available in Db2 11.5. The two-day events in Australia were well attended. IDUG switched to a multi-city conference model for the first time, and we are eager to hear your feedback.
As I am writing this newsletter, IDUG volunteers are putting finishing touches to the IDUG Data Tech Summit (Db2 for z/OS), which will be held October 2–4 in San Jose, and the IDUG Db2 Tech Conference in Rotterdam. It is still not too late to register, and I strongly encourage you to attend one of these events.
As mentioned in my previous newsletter, IDUG is co-sponsoring a virtual Db2 Master Class hackathon with IBM. The online hackathon will be held October 11–13, 2019.The total prize pool is $15,000, and winners will be announced during the IDUG EMEA conference in Rotterdam. Check out more details about the hackathon. Once you register, you will be able to access videos on how to develop Db2 solutions for applications utilizing machine learning, web applications, and blockchain. You will also automatically receive the invitation for the online hackathon.
