February 2020

IDUG is nearly 32 years young and has continued to stay relevant by delivering the highest quality Db2 education to members across the globe. Simply staying relevant is no longer a recipe for success. Organizations that thrive in the modern ecosystem have one thing in common. In addition to staying relevant, they embrace disruption and digital transformation, finding modern ways to connect with their customers and establish an integrated ecosystem. While IDUG has roots built on major conferences, we are working tirelessly to modernize information delivery and stay connected to our members throughout the year.

IDUG recognizes that the community is the foundational core of the organization. To serve its members throughout the year, IDUG will have renewed focus on the following:

Website Refresh and Improving the Mobile App

The IDUG website infrastructure is overdue for a refresh. Over the next several months, IDUG will be migrating to a newer, SEO-friendly website. The new website will allow RUGs to host their websites under, will allow for better member interactions, and will deliver rich content. IDUG will be working on improving its mobile app and using it to engage with members throughout the year. IDUG will continue to offer unique and value-added content to premium members. If you are not a premium member, please check out the premium member website.

RUG Rejuvenation

In 2020, IDUG will embark on a major initiative to rejuvenate Regional User Groups (RUGs). IDUG will work with RUGs to deliver quality education. The newer RUG ecosystem will include virtual meetings, and meetups will complement the traditional classroom-style RUG education. RUG activities will include hackathons and other competitions that will focus on activities to foster collaboration.

Db2 Certification

Together IDUG and IBM have embarked on a marathon effort to refresh all of the Db2 certification programs. IDUG will continue to provide Db2 certification during conferences, and we are working with IBM to evaluate more modern ways to deliver certification tests.

Another unique aspect of IDUG is its rotating leadership. IDUG presidents are typically elected for a one-year term, and IDUG is dedicated to strong leadership succession planning. I want to thank each and every one of you who applied for a position on the IDUG Board of Directors. IDUG is a successful organization thanks to the numerous volunteers who are committed to making IDUG’s heart tick.

Registration for the IDUG India events in Chennai and Bengaluru is open. For the first time ever, IDUG and IIUG will be collocating their India events. These two events offer the opportunity for attendees to connect with some of the leading Db2 experts in the industry and engage in discussions on Db2 trends and directions. If you are planning to be in Chennai or Bengaluru, or have an extended team in one of those two cities, please encourage your team to register and take advantage of the early bird pricing. IDUG is continuing to enhance its partnership with other user groups.

The website for the IDUG North America Tech Conference in Dallas in 2020 is already up and running. I want to thank everyone who took the time to submit their abstracts. The Conference Planning Committee is currently notifying speakers whose abstracts have been selected. The early bird pricing is still available, and I encourage everyone to register early and take advantage of the discounted pricing. IDUG will continue to offer its popular bring-a-friend program. I highly encourage you to use this program to bring a first-time attendee to IDUG.

Please feel free to drop me a line with any questions or suggestions. Until next time, I encourage you to go through and check out the valuable content. As always, I can be reached at
