As I begin my year as president of IDUG I hope that all members of the IDUG community, their families, friends and co-workers are safe during these difficult times. The North American Conference marks the transition for the IDUG leadership team. Billy will now begin his year as past president and   unfortunately, Mirna Kos will now retire from IDUG. Both have had distinguished careers as IDUG volunteers, and they have provided outstanding leadership during a period of significant and positive change for the organization. I would like to personally thank Billy and Mirna for their support and mentoring.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Virtual North American event, please take a look. The conference will begin with a live kickoff on July 20, 21,and 23 and will continue with additional content offered during the weeks of July 27, August 3,  and August 10. A registration to the conference includes a complimentary one-year premium IDUG membership. In addition, each registrant is entitled to a complimentary voucher for either a Db2 V12 certification exam or a LUW 11.5 proctored badge exam. The conference planning committee has worked diligently to create a virtual conference experience that has many of the hallmarks of an onsite event: 60+ technical sessions, hands-on labs, workshops, live speaker Q&A, panel discussions, vendor sessions, and more!  This virtual experience offers significant value for a nominal cost.

We have had to cancel our onsite events for Australasia, Brazil, India, and Mexico but we will be announcing new dates for their virtual replacements in the near future. In keeping with IDUG’s support of diversity, the event for Brazil will feature sessions in Portuguese and Mexico’s event will offer sessions in Spanish. The transition to virtual conferences in these trying times will allow IDUG to reach out to underserved segment of the Db2 community. We will be announcing additional events for these audiences over the next year.

As Billy has mentioned previously the IDUG website is being updated and the current target date for the change over to the new site is now set for the end of August. This date will avoid any impact to the North American virtual event. The new site is community focused and it should enable IDUG to better serve its members.

I’m looking forward to serving the Db2 community as IDUG President. Please reach out to me with any questions, suggestions, or concerns.

Thanks – Bob
